Yes, he’s experienced.

Jimi Hendrix has been proclaimed the “Greatest Guitarist of All Time” by a panel of musicians wrangled by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Though dead for more than 40 years, Hendrix’s fiery and distinct style clearly continues to inspire, and intimidate, six-string pluckers the world over.

You got it pal. It seems most of the people on this forum think music begins and ends with loud rock and roll. I can't stand Hendrix, but there are rock guitarists I like such as Clapton and Santana.

However, there are thousands of other guitarists in other areas of music who I would rather listen to than a screechy rock and roll guitarist who knows about five chords and can only play at earbusting levels. On one of these greatest musician ever threads I mentioned that I like George Benson. Some poster seemed incredulous that I could like a great jazz guitarist over some overloud rocker. A lot of Freepers need to listen to more kinds of music and get out of their little rock and roll shells.

I am aware that Segovia didn’t write it. He does play it damn well, though.

Phil Keaggy, but since he’s Christian the R.S. writers are probably not even aware of him.

*Based on technical facility, capability for multiple styles of play, soul, feel, sound, uniqueness.

Don’t even try to argue with this list, because I have checked it carefully and it is 100% correct.

sorry you missed one...Danny Gatton....even Vai bowed to him...they didn’t call him “The Humbler” for nothing...but saying that...Gatton tipped his hat to Lenny Breau....so who knows?

Jeff Beck gets my vote.

And for drums (may take heat on this one): Buddy Rich.

Bill Nelson is one of the best (still). I was a huge Be Bop Deluxe fan back in the day. Blazing Apostles is a must hear for anyone who wants to be inspired by the guitar, and someone who knows how to play it.

Nelson has never received the recognition he so richly deserves, and I don't expect the idiots at RS to change that fact with their list.

Has anyone ever seen what Leo Kottke can do with a 12-string?

It's pretty impressive until he tries to sing.

Jimi had off nights. When he was ON (see Fillmore East concerts New Years 1970 Machine Gun, he was unstoppable.

I never had the opportunity to see him play live (too young), but I do play the guitar and there is something about how he played, the *soul* of it that other people didn’t have (Beck, Clapton most of the time - there were exceptions).

Here’s another one. Danny Gatton.

I had the priviledge of seeing him play a couple of times and he had the effect of making me want to put my guitar away after seeing him.

There’s a reason he’s referred to as “the Humbler”.

He still makes limited release CDs. Accessible through Sound on Sound.

He plays pretty much everything. Jazz. Pop. Rock. Ambient. Classical.

He’s a rare talent.

No problem...glad to see that he is remembered...he was an incredible talent....i try not to watch too much of him...he frustrates me to no end...he made it look effortless...i have thoughts of burying my guitars in the back yard or building a bonfire!
