UC Davis Student Admits Protesters Surrounded Cops and Wouldn't Let Them Leave

As Occupy-loving media continue to express outrage over protesters getting pepper-sprayed by campus police officers at the University of California at Davis last week, a surprising admission by one of the attendees was uncovered in an interview Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman did Monday.

One of the pepper-sprayed students told Goodman, "We had encircled them [campus police], and they were trying to leave, and they were trying to clear a path. And so, we sat down, linked arms, and said that if they wanted to clear the path, they would have to go through us" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Well, that’s quite a transformation. Sounds like you had good role models, especially in your grandfather. As a kid in junior high(1969/70) the atmosphere was pretty much anti-Vietnam, the colleges kids tearing up the schools, the riots over civil rights, all that scary stuff, I didn’t quite know what to make of it. Despite the prevailing spirit at the time to call our soldiers ‘’baby killers’’, I never felt that way, like a lot of my class mates did. I came from a family of life-long Democrats who felt government was the answer to everything, my dad was a union man and all that. So that’s how I voted. As I got older I bought into the whole liberal/socialist bit without knowing what the heck it all really meant. There’s an old saying, “A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged’’. Well, 9/11 mugged me. Conversely the flip-side to that saying is “A liberal is a person to broad-minded to take their own side in an argument’’. Todays crop of liberals have gone way beyond anything I ever knew, they’re ignorant and dangerous and there is nothing more terrifying that ignorance in motion. I pray for our country. I hear you, my gandparents were lifelong Dems. Back in daBronx registering as a dem was as sacrosanct as bar mitzvahs and circumsicions. There was a time when being a dem meant something, we have nothing to fear but fear itself, the buck stops here, ask not what your country can do for you.My parents became repubs around the same time Pres Reagan did and for the same reason, they didn’t leave the party, the party left them. “A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged’’ I gained an understanding of that when I first heard on the news of the Munich massacre.
