Afghan officials say NATO and Afghan forces patrolling near the Pakistan border came under fire before they called in the NATO airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers on Saturday.

Sunday's account by unnamed officials contradicts Islamabad's claims that the attack on two Pakistani army bases was unprovoked.

NATO and U.S. officials responded quickly to try to minimize the diplomatic repercussions of the attack. NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Sunday promised a full investigation into the "tragic, unintended" deaths.

Do not see one word where it says our guys said, it says afghan officials say. It would be nice to know we have men with sense enough to know what side of the border they are shooting at. Do you do you have a link to a believable source.

I just hope it doesn’t come to our guys having to fight their way out of that S..t hole. If the pakis stop supply shipments our guys are a little trapped. Air power is all that can protect them and that takes massive amounts of fuel.

It is a long convoy route from Karachi.

org.whodat quite adroitly wrote and inquired: Do not see one word where it says our guys said, it says afghan officials say. It would be nice to know we have men with sense enough to know what side of the border they are shooting at. Do you do you have a link to a believable source.

A believable source? With links? In this long war?

No.

Just curious . . . org.whodat . . . who/what do you accept as a believable source? What is your criteria for belief?

Thanks, much.

Thanks much.

Gave me an incident thread to research.

Looks like Pakistan has shelled/fired upon Afghan/Nato troops (and civilians) for quite awhile with impunity.

Too bad it stalls resupply convoys from Afghanistan and makes them vulnerable to attack.

Also, this is the second time Pakistan has ordered us to vacate our drone (recovery/maintenance) base on Pakistan soil following a similiar incident.

Reminds me of a great movie: Same Time Next Year.

In response to my question, org.whodat passionately and sincerely wrote: I got taught a lesson on the killing and cover up of, Pat Tillman, and you????? Not going to buy anymore bridge stock from NATO.

What was the lesson you learned and wish to pass on to us veterans of passed wars, so we might warn our children, grandchildren and our great-grandchildren not to follow in their father's and mother's footsteps?

I asked, you have not answered, "Just curious . . . org.whodat . . . who/what do you accept as a believable source? What is your criteria for belief?"

I will read the investigation report pal, and my active duty dates were 1967-71. I had four brothers that were vets, the oldest KIA in WWII, and my father was a vet. Now stuff it.

Stuff it, where, pal?

Simple question you’ve not yet answered, for all your deflecting . . .

I politely asked, and ask again, “Just curious . . . org.whodat . . . who/what do you accept as a believable source? What is your criteria for belief?”

Read real slow after it is investigated I will read it, I do think general command has started this process. Do you have a problem with that. One would hope boner would get off his ass and exercise a little review in committee.

You should make a note, the pentagon just said, that a field commander stumbled upon the out post and called in an air strike. So what is the real story.

I’ve been thinking the same thoughts. Makes me think of the Ten Thousand. I don’t like that I am having these thoughts.

I have two suggestions to offer:

Don’t try to civilize savages, unless you are serious about imposing your culture on them over several generations.

Don’t get involved in a land war in Asia.

If you want bad thoughts think of Elphinstone in 1842.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_of_Elphinstone%27s_Army

There is just so much bad news anymore. I can’t remember so much just plain dagger like news that is all bad that keeps niggling at us day after day, not in the last 50 years. It come from every direction and is of every type. Any good news is lost in the din of bad.

It seems command and control in the overhead command center screwed up, someone is going to get fired. They have ended their career. How in the hell can they claim they did not know the GPS location of the paks camps.
