Poll: Obama would beat Bush (CBS/Vanity Fair Poll)

President Barack Obama would top former President George Bush in a hypothetical head to head match-up, a new poll Monday shows.

Overall, 40 percent of respondents said they would prefer Obama, compared to 31 percent for Bush - while 27 percent said that they would reject both, according to the CBS/Vanity Fair poll

While partisan voters are deeply divided, independents prefer Obama by a significant margin. Thirty-three percent of indie would vote for Obama, 24 percent would back Bush, and 42 percent don’t want either.

Along party lines, 72 percent of Republicans would support Bush, while 77 percent of Democrats would back Obama.

This poll was conducted Oct. 28-31 among a sample of 1,033 adults. The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus three percentage points.

A couple of things here. What is the point of this poll. Since it was conducted by CBS and Vanity fair I reject the results. I'm sure the question that elicited these results was certainly resulted.

On what planet was this survey taken? I’ve only heard that Obama has a terrible approval rating among “independents”

Obama is in such bad shape the MSM has to manufacture elections he might win. How would he do against Carter?

Would he do better than Mondale against Reagan?

I await the results of those polls.

So, how in a match up where neither are constitutionally qualified to be elected to office, Obama would come out slightly ahead. Very useless data point there, CBS.

But Bush is clearly inelible under the Twenty-fifth Amendment to run for President.

I'm not sure how Politico takes heart from a poll showing that 58% said they wouldn't vote for Obama in any case, and he might beat a guy who can't possibly run.

They could select any Republican opponent and Dems would pick 0bama and Republicans would pick The Other Guy.
Let's compare apples and apples instead:
Wonder how 0bama would poll against John Kerry, Al Gore, Bill Clinton or or Jimmy Carter.

Resorting to the hypothetical helps Obama’s re-election team in the liberal media to escape reality and sleep at night.

And this tripe is consuming valuable bandwidth. Just shows what a lot of people have known for a long time. Bush wasn’t much of a Republican.

Those guys over at Political really don’t have much going on do they? Maybe they should run a poll of every previous President that was a Republican and see how Obama would do against them. I am interested to see how Obama would do against his idol he compares himself to frequently, Abraham Lincoln. If idiots were trees, the offices at political would look like an orchard.
