PARIS, Nov 30 (KUNA) - The French Foreign Ministry on Wednesday summoned Iran's current senior envoy to Paris to hear a protest over the incidents and damage caused at the British embassy in Tehran Tuesday. French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero indicated that the Iranian Charge d'Affaires, Amir Miri, has been called in to the Ministry and was told that France "very firmly condemns the attack and unacceptable pillage" at the British mission.
France had already condemned the apparently organized incident in the embassy, when a group of protesters ran amok, breaking furniture and throwing files and other items around the offices. The summoning of the Iranian diplomat takes the protest a step further. Senior French officials also protested what they said was "the passivity of law and order forces" faced with the actions of the Iranian demonstrators.
Miri, who is the number two in the Iranian embassy, was also told that Iran was responsible for "assuring the security at diplomatic holdings in conformity with the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations." The French side also told the Iranian diplomat of the "full solidarity" of France with the British government on this question.
Gallic Ping.
It will be interesting, at the end of the day, to see the list of European Nations who either condemn the Iranian actions or simply close their embassies in Iran.
Italy considering closing its embassy in Tehran, foreign minister says
I would think the Canadians & Australians would order their staff out of Iran, too.
“Italy considering closing its embassy in Tehran”
I’d like to see that, since I believe Italy does more business with Iran than any other EU country.
