The Germans need to be paying their taxes.

Lazy Greeks and Italians need the money.

They're ruining the reputation of the United States.

I see.

"Bush's fault" is getting old, so we're moving on to "Santorum's fault."

This, coming from a country recently led by the corrupt communist Gerhard Schroeder, and mere decades ago by a certain mustachioed Nazi.

Keep it to yourselves, Germans. You have WAYYY too much national baggage and faulty electoral judgment to criticize.

The entire planet should ignore anything that any German has to say about anything, until Germany proves it can go 100 years without shoving people in ovens.

Pretty lame. The best he can come up with for dismayed Republicans are Frum and Noonan. Is this Olbermann’s long lost twin?

There’s a bit of truth here (and some stretchers). But for all that, none of them are anywhere near as bad as Obama.

Europe is afraid that if the current anti-American in the White House gets booted, that a Pro-American President wouldn’t bail out Europe.

"The latest rumor du jour involves a certain candidate who long ago seemed to have disappeared from the radar. Now she may be back, or so it is said, to bring order into this chaos. Never mind that her name is synonymous with chaos: Sarah Palin."

Hmmmm, interesting, anyone heard this?

I’m a foreign observer (a lazy Italian) and have been thoroughly enjoying the goings-on of the Republican warm-up. - also because the EU and Banks Inc. effectively killed Italian politics replacing our own colorful characters with dull-gray technocrats who report to Commissars.

I can’t imagine what Der Spiegel is talking about. Sure, it’s far from perfect and like sausage making sometimes it’s not pretty, but at least the stuff gets bashed about. There are exposès, interviews, live debates, townhall meetings, spoofs, insinuations, vetting... the works. By the end of it, Americans will have a pretty clear idea of whom to vote for while holding their nose... IMO a better way to vote than the previous insane, flaring-nostril - leg-tingling enthusiasm for the likes of Mr. This-is the-day-the Oceans-receded. If anything THAT’S when America lost her exceptionalism, which used to be horse sense.

The Germans in their great numbers, but also most Europeans, even Italians, fell for the Hope and Change baloney with even greater mindlessness. This time around there’s lots more serious politics involved. Perhaps the Der Spiegel pundits were missing all the Obamian ENTHUSIASM of 2008. Whatever the reason, they can be ignored... the Republicans have an interesting field

As an ex-pat resident in Germany in many years I can say that I am glad that FReepers have an opportunity to see the kind of leftist propaganda that is the daily bill of fare here in Germany.

The simple truth is that the people here are exposed to a distorted version of America and after years and years of this they entertain the most outlandish even conspiratorial notions of America. A few years ago a poll revealed that an astonishingly high number of Germans believe that the United States government crashed its own towers on 9/11.

I was speaking to a well-educated and highly intelligent attorney last night who solemnly advised me that George Bush pressured Secretary of State Colin Powell into lying before the Security Council about the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. This was offered not as a debatable point but as a predicate upon which to build the rest of the conversation. It was not a debatable point but a matter of context.

When I go into the bookstore in the local community where they often devote a table to American politics, I have never seen a single book that supports George Bush or supports a conservative view of America. Virtually all of them bash America up and down except for the likes of Barack Obama.

If you read the whole article from Der Spiegel you will see that the author is well enough acquainted with American politics to possess a certain facility in distorting reality. You can imagine how disadvantaged and vulnerable are most Germans are who do not have the time to penetrate the language barrier and get the real facts.

We have seen this among our own people who presumably speak the mother tongue.

Of course, Progressives are brilliant geniuses, as are
our beloved President, Vice President, and all Progressives in both houses of Congress and throughout the country.

Rupblicans are knuckle-dragging, bible-thumping, gun-loving, stupid, simplistic, ignorant morons.

The French and German press specialize in these appallingly ignorant pieces about the US because their audience likes anti-American articles. It makes them feel superior, I guess.

The other thing, truth be told, is that continentals don't really like democratic politics very much, a dislike which the Germans hide behind a facade of support for “liberal” statist projects like the EU, which are fundamentally hostile to democracy and individual liberty.

Seriously though, how did this guy land his job?

This is written with the expertise of a 10th grader who just read the textbook chapter on Nuclear Disarmament.

LOL.

It is a joke. I thought this was a real media outlet in Germany.

Michelle, Cain and Santorum are all legit.
