Santorum is PA and Obama has to take PA to win.

Santorum got his butt whumped the last time he was in an election in PA.

Yeah and Santorum is doing real bad in the polls. Will he be the only left standing when people are done eating they’re own in the GOP?Why is Newt okay now but Christie is too RINO? And Perry dissed when he is right of them all?

I just don't see Santorum as a viable alternative. He has become as much of a Beltway insider as Newt, so why bother pushing him as an alternative? If anything, to me Perry is the ony remaining viable alternative to Newt (Perry at least seems to understand that there is a 10th Amendment), but Perry apparently damaged himself too much to be able to recover. Newt seems to have survived his immigration gaffes, I think largely because he has shown he could stand up to Obama in a debate whereas Perry would be in a constant battle to control his own tongue in that situation.

It truly has been a strange pre-primary season. More twists could open up, but with the current trends I see Newt taking the nomination. And I see the media largely holding their fire against Newt until that happens, and then look out.

I too felt very disenfranchised and down right hurt by Santorum (at GWB’s behest) endorsing Snarlin Arlen

Hurt is the right word for it. I had thought he was one of us. I thought he was the real deal. Turned out he was just another political hack. He broke my heart and in some ways permanently changed how I view politicians.

I was getting excited about Cain, but that dream has died.

Santorum is certainly more personally likable than Newt, who's already thrown two wives under the bus. I would vote for Rick Santorum, but I can't support him to the degree where I think he's better than the rest of the pack (well, he's better than Romney). Unless the nominee is Romney, I'm reasonably certain I'll get behind whomever we put up against Obama, but until then I'm going to wait to get serious about a candidate because I'm just not seeing anybody worth getting serious about.

Seriously, can someone explain to me why Santorum is unexeptable to 95%+ of Republican primary voters?

Just because he got his head handed to him in a purple/blue state during a horrendous GOP yr(’06). Do that many find him unelectable?
Help me here guys.

I just don’t like him personally, something about him makes me not like him, I can’t explain it beyond that.

First, as a personality he is uninspiring. I love most of his views, but he doesn’t move me to action. Second, it is significant that an INCUMBENT (you can’t downplay that) conservative lost. Third, he endorsed Sphincter-—an unpardonable sin.

Why is an endorsement of Specter, 7 years ago at the behest of party and president, ‘unpardonable,’ but Newt’s endoresement of Scozzafava only 2 years ago is just peachy?

You also don’t need a president who is a showboat, who likes to show off his brilliance at every opportunity, eh?

this will all play out to the convention where a nominee will be picked from none of the listed candidates...

a true “man of the people” will come forward.

just like in hollywood.

teeman.

still on the cain train.

Santorum isn’t a serious candidate by any stretch. My candidate is “None of the Above.”

At the risk of appearing uninformed, I'll just go ahead and admit it. I don't know Santorum. I've never followed him, and know only what I see other Freepers report about him.

From what I can tell, the consensus (not just here) is a thumbs down.

The biggest deal-breaker for me, is that the guy's track is as a legislator, not a chief executive (such as a Governor or CEO).

Behest or not, Sphincter was someone with a proven track record of opposing ALL conservative ideas. Scozzafava was an unproven commodity---probably lib---running against a guy who had issues of his own.

Worse, Sphincter was a SENATOR and only one of 100, with a six-year stay in office. I think in terms of impact it's a big difference. But the question was why people are not excited about Santorum and I gave you some answers.

The other BIG reason that people are more excited about Newt than Santorum is that every single time Newt has been given a platform he has attacked OBAMA, while others (including Santorum) bobbed and weaved (think of the answer on the "gay" soldier). If Santorum had kept half as much attention on Obama as Newt has, he'd be in the top tier.

For me personally, I never took his entry into the race seriously and I still don’t. Some pundits called Herman Cain’s a “vanity run”, but I think Santorum’s is a vanity run.

He’s running as a defeated US Senator for crying out loud. How lackluster can you get?
