.....an article by Christopher Hitchens questions whether he would have gone to such extremes to live given the pain and horror of his present life living with cancer......

Reminds me of Roger Ebert's story----certainly the most gruesome I've ever read----he has no lower jaw, cannot eat, drink........

Earlier, he was being treated for throat cancer---then saw an online story that radiation might cure it. He did so but later found the radiation destroyed micro-cells. When doctors attempted micro-surgery for his condition....it would not work. He had to get radical surgery......

But he seems very upbeat---despite his condition.

Same with Steve Jobs----when diagnosed with cancer, he opted for health foods and such. But had he had the recommmended treatment, he would have prolonged his life....since cancer develops in stages......and his became inoperable.

Roger Ebert has said that he feels he went against doctors’ advice when he first went sick. He’s been honest about that and I do admire his stoicism (if nothing else!)

The Hitchens article is very hardhitting. I had to put my hand over the photo that accompanied it because he looked so...different. His basic theme is: that which doesn’t kill me, makes me WEAKER. He’s truthful in his way as Ebert has been.

Bottom line: everyone faces mortality differently!
