Aw, man, Quix...I just saw this on another thread. I’m sorry to hear the news of your Dad’s passing. All praise to The Father that the transition was a move up. May you and your extended family know the peace that comes only from Him Who is The Prince of Peace.

__________

P. S. - RE: Prayers that are “a little funny”
I was discussing the practice of praying to saints, and being a bit disparaging, when an evangelical charismatic friend of mine pointed out that we are admonished in Eph. 6:18 to be “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

He then asked me these questions: Does that admonishment become null and void after we, who are the saints, have passed on into eternity?

Does that admonishment no longer apply to those saints that have passed on into eternity; does “all saints” mean “all saints” or does it not?

It’s not the same as asking St. Christopher to bless your cab ride, but the implication is clear that the old line “pray for the dead and the dead will pray for you” actually DOES have a scriptural foundation when by “the dead” is meant “the departed saints.”

It’s an interesting point, and one that I’ve added to my mental Shelf of Explosive Curiosities.

In the meantime, I guess you may feel free to continue praying for your Dad; for his “adjustment” to his new abode. I don’t think it out-of-line at all to presume that — to the extent he is aware of your ongoing life on Earth — your Dad will be lodging petitions with The Almighty on your behalf. In this way he may bless you more perfectly now than he ever could have in this world.

Blessings and my sincere condolences.

“Shelf of Explosive Curiosities” I like that. :) And the older I get the less inclined I am to say I “know” anything. When I get to Heaven the first place I want to go (as soon as I’m allowed to do whatever it is I want to, if that ever happens) is God’s library. I think I will spend a few thousand years there just looking things up. :) I think I will be majorly surprised by many things I find out there. For now, I think I understand the important things like salvation. God Bless you for your post. :)
