8 weeks to the Florida GOP Primary, Newt Gingrich resoundingly defeats Mitt Romney, with no other candidates worth discussing, according to a SurveyUSA poll of 500 likely Republican primary voters conducted for WFLA-TV in Tampa.

Gingrich gets 45%, Romney 23%, no one else is above 6%.

* Among those who describe themselves as moderate, Romney leads 3:2. * Among those who tell SurveyUSA they are "very conservative," Gingrich leads 3:1. * Among Evangelicals, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Among members of the Tea Party, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Among pro-life voters, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Gingrich leads by 20 or more points in every region of the state except Southeast Florida, where Romney runs 3 points ahead of Gingrich. * Gingrich's Favorability among likely Florida primary voters is now an extraordinary Plus 54. * Romney's Favorability among likely Florida primary voters is now Plus 30. * By contrast, and as a point of differentiation, Ron Paul's favorability is Minus 11, Rick Perry's favorability is Minus 9.

Anticipating that by the time the Florida primary is held, after Iowa, after New Hampshire, and after South Carolina, that some 2nd-tier candidates may have dropped out of the race, SurveyUSA asked likely primary voters who they would vote for if the only two remaining candidates, at the time of the Florida primary, were Gingrich and Romney.

In a two-man face-off, Gingrich defeats Romney 57% to 30%.

Newt has really maximized his strengths with all of these Televised Debates....Perry has destroyed his personal chances.+

Interesting that evangelicals are big supporters. He’s flawed. But who else do we have?

Two to one! Very good. :) I guess after 3 years of Obama, people are on the lookout for someone who knows his way around without a map.
Not a fortunate son pol who had a “Hello My Name Is ___ Vote for Romney” sticker on his diaper and the royal birthmark presidential seal on his rump.
He is algore with half the fat. The first entitlement Newt will eliminate in 2012.

Interesting. If everyone else drops out, Gingrich adds 12% and Romney picks up 7%. Those not already supporting one of the two are twice as likely to follow Newt as Mitt. In other words, those who don't already tolerate Romney because he's "inevitable" are not terribly interested in supporting him eventually.

Yeah, right.... Are we supposed to believe that over 70% of conservatives are supporting Obamacare, amnesty, gun-grabbing crony-capitalism, etc? That’s absurd, just like this poll.

Interesting? Or humiliating? This is the end of the evangelical credibility IMO. The homo/lesbians are watching this with awe as the evangelicals declare morals, values, the Word, none of those matter anymore. Evil has won. I am ashamed I once called myself an evangelical or conservative.

This kind of “lead” makes me uneasy but we’re better off without Romney no matter what our “betters” in the northeast establishment try to tell us.

This is heartening.

Not long ago I was denegrating Romney to otherwise conservatives when it appeared Romney was inevitable. There's no reason we have to accept a RINO again.

We suffered through Dole-McCain.

We deserve better, or at least more conservative.

Absolutely they are all in on it. Ever hear of the AGW fraud? Same principle. They have millions of dollars in reasons to lie.

Newt leads among the “very conservative” 3 to 1. It is becoming clear that the posters on here dumping on Newt day after day are not what they claim they are, and may be agents for other interests trying to sabotage his candidacy.

Hint: He’s the governor of Texas. And when the Southern Primaries are over... He’ll be the GOP contender.

I find it hilarious to watch you people claim that all of evangelical America and the conservative movement is gone bonkers instead of the much more obvous conclusion that you are simply WRONG.
