Jennifer "Rita" Platt says she's determined to vote next year, but Wisconsin isn't making it easy for her.
She and the rest of Wisconsin's voters will need to comply with a new voter ID law when they go to the polls in February's primaries.
With few exceptions, those without the proper ID can't vote.
But Platt and her boyfriend don't have forms of identification accepted at the polls, so they recently drove about 45 minutes to a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Hudson to each get an ID.
They encountered two problems.
The DMV office's computer system was down, which meant they couldn't get an ID processed. And they were told they didn't have the proper identification to get a state ID card or a Wisconsin driver's license, Platt said.
"They said I didn't have a certified birth certificate or a current passport," said Platt, who said she had asked the DMV what was needed before heading to Hudson.

Give me a break! Send these people some cheese.
A. Some legal document that shows your written signature. One document can satisfy more than one category. Anything you use, though, has to be current, not expired. There are very few people who cannot manage to get a state ID. There is almost always a way if they actually live here and aren't in the U.S. illegally.
B. Some legal document that shows date of birth (current IL state ID or driver's license, a U.S. passport, a birth certificate, USCIS forms, etc)
C. Social Security number.
D. Proof of residency (2 documents required, such as homeowner's insurance policy, a utilities bill in your name, medical claim or statement of benefits, credit report, deed, title, etc).
So I take it the Dems are also demanding that people who travel abroad don’t have to have their picture taken to get a valid passport. Who’s kidding whom? The Dems know that correcting these problems will be mostly simple matters. They make it seem like the few people who have no picture IDs will NEVER!!! be able to get one. What a bunch of hooey. The simple truth is the Dems are fighting this tooth and nail because they know they’re the party which benefits from voter fraud.
Call the state you were born in and pay for a certified copy and BAM you have the required ID. Gees. How hard is that?
I was handing out campaign literature outside a NE Philly poll last November when a couple of union guys (I could tell from their jackets) leaving the poll walked past me, and I heard one ask the other where they were going next.
This tale of utterly contrived hardship has only one purpose - to keep the vote fraud gates open.
I just did the same here in California. Sent in the form with a check for $17 to the county registrar’s office and less than two weeks got a copy of my son’s birth certificate.
Uh, how'd they drive there without ID?
Make this a modern poll test, as unbiased as they come: if you can't manage to get yourself an ID, you don't need to vote.
That's just to illustrate how relatively recent hospital deliveries really are. Mom needed a Pennsylvania ID card to get reduced rates on a senior taxi so she wouldn't be 100% dependent on me for transportation. We found out what documents she needed to get the state issued ID card before I drove her in there.
It isn't rocket science. If I can do it for my 89 year old mother, a 42 year old school librarian and her boyfriend should be able to figure it out.
How do we know that they are really “John Wolfe and Rita Platt”?
So, two boneheads out of millions can’t walk and chew gum at the same time but it is “news”? Nah.... This is a press release. Meaningless other than it tells us that the courts are going to waste time and money with these two morons. All that is happening here is that they are looking for a judge to kill a good law....
“It isn’t hard to get a notarized copy of your birth certificate mailed to you.”
It is if you’re an illegal alien!
The new spokespersons for “Idiot of the Month Club”.
In 2000 Constance Milstein, a Dem activist from NYC, admitted to passing out smokes to prospective voters i.e. street people in Milwaukee to get them to vote for the Donkey Party. She actually bragged about it. Gore ended up winning Wisconsin by only about five thousand votes out of more than two million cast. That’s less than one percent. I don’t know if the outcome would have been different if there was no voter fraud, but they can’t tell me Dem-inspired voter fraud doesn’t occur.
My right to vote is so important to me, and such a privilege granted to me by the US Constitution, and by the deaths and sacrifices of millions of American servicemen to preserve that right, that I do not consent to allowing someone who does not have that privilege to cancel out my voting rights.
If it is so important to these malcontents to vote, then they should be highly motivated to ask for a certified copy of their birth certificate from the county of their birth, and they should have done this long ago.
They do not value their citizenship highly, who preserve it with only lip service.
If they think it is such a hardship imposed to exercise a fundamental right, then why must I go through even more effort to exercise my right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment?
It is because you do not agree with rights important to me, only those important to thee.
This first battle that must be fought must be over the integrity of the vote. It is the first and last line of defense against tyranny.
It is the reason we are a separate nation today.
Why should Iraq have more secure elections than the US?
I find this really curious.
How did the person you spoke to on the phone verify you were really the person the BC refers to? What would stop me from requesting a BC for someone other than myself?
Wow. I think of myself as a careful reader, but that one flew right over me. Good catch.
Even if they had an out of state drivers license, all states require new residents to apply for a new divers license with in usually 30 to 90 days of residency anyway. Clearly this reporter had a story he wanted to tell regardless of it’s accuracy.
This is the kind of reporting that makes people not trust the press! Where is the editor, is there no fact checking going on.
Absolutely nothing, this is how much of identity theft is done, do a little research and you can assume anyone’s ID at least for a time.
