Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now trails President Obama by double digits, his second straight weekly decline since becoming the GOP frontrunner. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters finds Obama earning 49% of the vote, while Gingrich receives 39% support.

Sorry, he's not the only "conservative" in the race, and he's polling badly because he has severe weaknesses.
While driving today, I saw a “Reagan/Bush 84” sticker on a fairly new jeep (08-11). Funny how they held on it so long. Made me wish for better days. Won’t see a candidate like him for a LONG time, if ever.
Well, since the only reason people were settling for Gingrich was the polls said he could beat Obama, it’s probably a good thing to see that polls are unreliable.
I’m not trying to be a pill. I talk to a lot of people who are apoltical. And always they mention Ron Paul and huntsman as to who they like.
Great photoshop! I know that Churchill wasn’t all that popular among his people either. Tough, blunt but the guy you wanted in the foxhole with you in battle! I think Newt, for all his imperfections is a patriot and the best to win back our country.
If Perry is not the nominee, I will vote for any nominee unless it is Newt or Romney.

We’ll see. I’ve been saying for a long time that when the current dog and pony shows are over and the so-called front runners are sorted out, Perry’s poll numbers will climb exponentially.
I’m very happy the LSM has kept him under the radar and concentrated on Mitt, Newt, Cain and Paul. When their slug fest is over, Perry will prevail.
McCain was the guy we settled for in 2008 because he could beat Romney in the primary.
Newt is the guy people want us to settle for in 2012 because he can beat Romney in the primary.
Newt will be McCain, the sequel.
You are right. I can deal with critics who want to expound on the positives of their choices. Their attacks are based a lot on negatives that are secondary or inconsequential to this very heavy decision we face. I respect Perry and Santorum. When I weigh their positives next to Newt’s relative to winning the upcoming war of the general election and leading afterward, my opinion is that Newt’s positives far outweigh the others’. Could I support the other guys if they were to win? Absolutely. I am however planning to vote for Newt in the Florida primary.

And as much as I may agree, I really don't want to write anything negative about Newts.
Just not worth getting the gingbats all riled up.

I like to think I go out of my way not to discard any of our candidates this early.
But I don't get Huntsman. He's gives the impression of being a Romney lite which is bad enough but the only mention of him seems to be on MSDNC which of course has the Republicans best interests in mind. /sarc.
You do know that when Perry started he was the front runner for about a month, yes?
The LSM had nothing to do with his decline, they didn't have to do anything since the man completely made a fool of himself for a couple of months.
I seriously doubt he can recover. Too many of us remember how incoherent he was and how he stubbornly insulted the conservative base.
The budget was never really balanced. Our total debt has increased every single year since 1969.

What about coattails, guys? It might be worth taking a chance on the obviously more conservative candidate in order to turn out more conservatives to the polls for the down-ticket elections. Who is Romney going to bring to the polls? We’ll attract a lot of squishy liberals and moderates who might vote for Romney because they’re disappointed with Obama, but then vote in their old liberal congressmen and senators. We’re better off with Obama and a very conservative Congress than a RINO and a liberal Congress who has a history of caving into a liberal legislature.
Not to mention, Newt DID usher in the 1994 revolution. How can we not think he might again have the ability to usher in another changeover in the Senate that we desperately need to overturn Obamacare?
There’s no question in my mind that we need to double-down and go with Newt to maximize potential conservative turn-out for the down-ticket elections. Don’t try to tell me Newt is a RINO, there is going to be a huge and obvious difference between Newt and Obama.
Since this thread was triggered by a poll, have you seen Obama’s polls on the handling of the economy? Have you seen Obama’s polls relative to taxes or spending? You want to compare these polls, based on 3 years of actual experience, to his polls in ‘08 based on Hopey / Changey?
You want to take that data plus the support base Newt is gaining with the Tea Party conservatives over the last month and tell me that he is McCain the sequel? My opinion differs from yours.
Most don’t like Newt for a number of reasons but he has won the debates by a mile. He is winning on substance not style.
