US marriages slump to record low

Where are Mr and Mrs Right?

Barely half of Americans - a record low - are currently married, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of Census data.

Just 51% of adult Americans are married, compared with 72% in 1960.

The median age of first marriage has also hit a new high, of 26.5 for brides and 28.7 for grooms.

Pew said the number of adults co-habitating, single-person households and single parents had meanwhile increased in recent decades.

The study found that 20% of adults today aged 18 to 29 are married, compared with 59% in 1960.

It is unclear whether they are delaying matrimony or abandoning it altogether.

The analysis also found the number of new marriages in the US had declined by five percentage points between 2009-10.

This may not necessarily have been caused by the economic downturn, since a similar trend has continued in Europe regardless of business cycles.

Pew, a nonpartisan think tank and polling organisation, found the percentage of those Americans who have been married at least once had declined as well - 72% in 2010, from 85% in 1960.

If the trend persists, in a few years less than half of Americans will be married, Pew said.

While Pew did not study reasons for the trend, it noted that the marriage rate for college-educated adults declined "far less" than among the less-educated.

A Pew survey in 2010 found that four out of 10 Americans believed marriage was becoming obsolete, but that 61% people who had never married would like to do so someday.

You are too cynical Chode.

It’s the man’s fault for not marrying the woman! Why Morgana? Well Chode if the man had married the high maintenance MTV girl and she just left at a drop of a hat, the man could go to court and charge her with “desertion”. Is it not wonderful how this little legal contract called marriage works? Who would have thought? Not only she charged with desertion but he gets custody of kids and not have to pay alamony.

According to studies I correct your thoughtful opinion to fit mine :):

marriage DIVORCE is the single worse financial decision any male (regardless of gender) can make in their lifetimes.

My husband and I did two John Gottman seminars and found them to be both helpful and useful. We are both conservatives and found them respectful of each partner.

If one is struggling with their marriage there are tools around to help them to move forward through some tougher times.

There is not a lot out there to support married couples these days. Plugging into some tools that can help is great.

I expect stuff like that from Kalifornia. Was a case in my state that the man found out the baby he had by his GF was not his. He had it tested and afterwards did not have to pay child support. He was ticked because he could not get the money he paid back. I say that when the real father is found he should sue the real father for the lost amount.

Its actually worse than perceived because this breed of super-enhanced ‘woman’ breed makes far more in income nowadays than the average U.S. male, and is employed at a higher rate. However, the court system acts to consider males as an automatic money donor blood vein for the welfare state.

This silly notion of ‘sharing the wealth’ at the level of gender-equality will surely hit a snag when same-sex marriage divorce ‘gaylimony’ is based on the ‘pitcher’ and the ‘catcher’ within the marriage relationship. WHO WAS THE DOMINANT FOR 10 YEARS? The COURT orders the submissive party to receive Financial $Gaylimony from the dominant member of the relationship for the rest if ITS life! HA

The male (of any gender) should re-consider any form of legal marriage, or consider their future labor as indentured servitude to the female (regardless of gender) species. Period.

My impression of the 20 something men is that they are not getting easy sex from the female persuasion. They are such losers that your more likely to find them having sex by themselves in their parents basement. The overweight softees would rather play xbox then go on a date with a girl. When I go out to dinner with my wife or a movie, I never see a young couple do the same. I’m surrounded by other middle age people like myself. It seems that any young man with some testosterone is in the military, the others are pure losers.

People want the movie (a successful, peaceful and happy society), but without the production (families, life values, functioning schools). In other words - and who would have ever thought? - the non-religious believe in miracles much more than the religious.

It seems to me that the political approach to problems which are generally of a moral nature has created its opposite.

Worshipping money has made us poorer, welfare has practically doomed its intended beneficiaries, the “niceness” of multiculturalism and political correctness have brought people further apart, forced integration has fuelled racial animosities, femminism has hurt women... and on and on right down the line.

Now we are overlawyered, over-criminalized, over-taxed, and over-controlled by surveillance equipment. We’ve been owned.

But we’re smart, hip, trendy and technological.

Let’s elect Obama and solve the racial problem! (and reverse the rising oceans and heal the planet!)

Well I guess the religious whackjobs are superstitious, but the others seem hyperstitious.

Actually blaming “the pill” might not be far from the truth. Elevated levels of estrogen related to birth control chemicals leached through sewage into public drinking water supplies has been directly attributed to the wussyfication of males, and also increased these Amazon gigantasour feminists devouring the minds and morals of our youth. It’s no wonder that Barry wants the pill OTC so there’s more estrogen urine in public drinking water resulting in young males with lower testosterone to resist more Government.

Women's Lib, Women's rights, etc. have destroyed the nuclear family.

Men have won as a result, with no commitment required, and fatherless homes everywhere.

Look in the minority communities, and look at the "free love" society we are living in today.
