PHILADELPHIA - A North Philadelphia shop owner said he had no words to describe his emotions upon returning from India, where he had attended his mother’s funeral, to discover his store had been looted and vandalized.

Bhupinder Cheema had operated a small convenience store near Germantown Avenue and West Cumberland Street, and had invested thousands of dollars into the business. Over the course of trip to Indian, which lasted several weeks, word spread through the neighborhood that the store had been left unattended.

“You’d think these India Indians would organize into militias.”

They’re not concentrated enough in most areas, and don’t live near the businesses.

Voluntary segregation is now happening because of the subhumans inhabiting major urban areas.....and it should surprise NOBODY.

“They didn’t give a rat’s ass.”

This isn’t far from Trenton, NJ, where we were supposed to fear rising crime due to police layoffs; since the police were ineffective anyway, there’s no difference.

Unfortunately, the police has to put calls on a priority basis. If you’re not being raped and murdered, they have to put you on a, “as cars are available”, priority list.

“Voluntary segregation is now happening because of the subhumans inhabiting major urban areas.”

It has always been that way in the North; after lecturing Southerners about segregation, Northern whites made sure when blacks migrated up to follow jobs that there were nice projects built to accomodate them - away from whites.

“Soon we’ll be hearing sob stories about how North Philly is a “food desert,” about how none of the big supermarket chains will open there because of racisim, about how residents of the area have to drive miles in order to buy the necessities of life.”

Very funny; Newark, NJ is one such “food desert”. A few years ago a chain supermarket opened there; it was the first one in decades. The residents would loot & pillage in the surrounding suburbs, filling the courts with shoplifters. In the meantime, they have an obesity epidemic and every fast food you can imagine at their fingertips.

I don’t mean to blame the victim, and what happened to him was horrible, but I think he should have had the business equivalent of a “housesitter” to keep his store safe until his return.

When Indians and many Asians go back to visit family back home, they like to spend about a month or so. That is just too long to spend away from his store in that neighborhood. Indian businesses could team together and cover for each other.

Usually they wont even show up for a break in.
The perp could still be inside. They don’t care.
They just say “call your insurance company”

Probably because it’s the only place they can afford to open a business. In some cases, they might also get a tax break for starting a business in a blighted area.

When I lived in Chestnut Hill, a contact with the police to ask them to keep an eye on your house because you would be away, was a guarantee that it would be empty upon return.

Germantown is just a few blocks away.

They would under the 999 "empowerment zone" plan.

Parts of it are; it has some of the wealthiest, and some of the poorest, municipalities in the country. While it is generally a dump, it is nice to have a seashore and mountains within 90 minutes of each other, four seasons, and (here’s spin for you) food from 150 different countries within 10 minutes of your house.

That makes sense; in a city I’d be leery about giving a heads-up to the cops. Where I am if you didn’t have family to look after a place you’d tell a cop you knew personally.

Oh, we have freshwater fishing and saltwater, and not far apart. On the positive side, you’re closer to Canada (which is a great place to visit).
