I suspect that she invented her first name "Citlalic" as a public affirmation of her rejection of the probable Christianity of her ancestors, however distant in generations. This theory is also supported by the infamous photograph.

Of course, her parents, if similarly possessed of anti-Christianity as a religion may have given her that name for similar reasons, in which case she is a hereditary non-believer. On the other hand, it is quite unlikely that she is a hereditary lesbian. They were not allowed to adopt that long ago.
