House Republicans Cave on Payroll Tax Cut Extension (Time for McConnell and Boehner to leave)

A muted House Speaker John Boehner announced today that Republicans have decided to accept a short-term extension of the payroll tax cut, preventing a hike in taxes just nine days before the tax break expires for 160 million Americans.

House GOP leaders appeared to be adopting a compromise suggested by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to pass the two-month extension in exchange for the Senate appointing members to a conference committee, which will negotiate a longer-term solution. The proposal won a nod of approval from President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

But Boehner was visibly unhappy with the deal.

"Kicking a can down the road for a couple of months does cause problems," he said at a news conference today.

House Republicans had originally wanted a one-year extension but faced mounting pressure from conservatives and their Senate counterparts to come to an agreement on the short-term deal.

"Sometimes it's politically difficult to do the right thing," Boehner said.

We can always count on the sun to rise in the morning, the sky to be blue, and on Republicans in congress to cave at the slightest pressure whatsoever.

Exactly why the Republican party should cease to exist in its current form.

It is indeed time for the Republicans to man-up and throw out their entire leadership in both houses of congress. None of them have a lick of sense, and got steamrolled.

Agree it’s either time for new leadership....or a new party of true conservatives with principals that mean something.
Capitulating to Obama and Reid for a 2 month extension was a height of political cowardice. Are there no Republicans with fortitude who can assume a leadership role?

With the unemployment extension attached, they didn't have any choice. They were looking for some good faith (one yr ext) on the part of the Dems. Obama's boot lickers set this up.

The special committee failed, too. What a surprise that was.

Oh me,it’s always the Republicans who cave. So now what happens to the oil line? What else are these gutless wonders going to cave on. Every doggone time there is a standoff on some rule in our congress the republicans cave to the uncaveable demorats. What in the world is going to happen to the conservatives in this country? We elect some who say they will stand up for our beliefs and they cave to the progressive communists!!!! Now we have the pappa Bush annointing Romney...a progressive republican?

They can take the cowards on Fox News and other so-called conservative news outlets with them. They all panicked, that has been the tea party congress problem, they never fight.

The GOP didn’t need to have the Libs pressing on this issue during the highest stress period of the year — Chrismas.

Obama and Reid ucked up on this one. Not the GOP. The bill was set to pass anyway, it was held up for what? Two weeks? So what? This isn’t a cave by any means by the GOP. Now, two months from now the bill comes up again. That’s when the real fight starts.

” A muted John Boehner..........”

The muted message on this payroll tax fiasco goes to the top, including, McConnell, and Cantor, and their RINO cohorts, who have said nothing and done nothing to teach the facts. There is NEVER a MESSAGE! An unforgivable omission of promoting conservative principles, in unison, loud and clear. A lost opportunity, designed to see us fail. What other excuse is there?

newnhdad said this in another thread, and he is right:

Rush said this would happen a few weeks ago. The winds are not shifting, Obama is toast and this is why the media is doing this crap. This is what happens when you only control 1/2 of 1/3rd of the government. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. This was neither a win or a lose, from what I gather because in the end, the sticking point will be addressed. This was more of a Reid temper tantrum with Obama not acting like an adult.

What this is, is a prime example of why we need to regain control the Senate and get back the presidency. Because if this was a republican president, we all know the media would be bitching about how they’re gutting social security with this “tax cut” and they’d run out a bunch of old people in front of the cameras whining about insolvency.

Sit back, relax and enjoy Christmas..

Exactly who were these “conservatives” who were said to be pressuring Congress to cave?

"With the unemployment extension attached, they didn't have any choice."

And exactly why did they have no choice? You really believe that an extension from two to three years of unemployment insurance is a desirable thing? Why don't we just give everyone twenty years of unemployment insurance?

You’re right, Republicans never fight. They pretend politics is a gentleman’s game. It is not...it is WAR and the democrat/socialist/communists fight it very well. The reblicans CAVE. I am angry.

The two “front runners” both received defermants from serving in the military, which means DRAFT DODGING, which relates to cowdarice, which actually is spineless wonders with a talking ability. One fellow has 5 sons, who never served in our military either, cowardice kind of runs in the family, yet the father wants to “run” and represent this country?

The GOP lost where it counts the most - public perception. The lack of coordination between Boehner and McConnell on this really makes them look like amateurs. Why did McConnell put the entire congressional GOP on the spot by voting for this stupid thing in the first place? Because they’re afraid Schumer, Reid and Axelrod are going to scream that the Republicans are just trying to defeat Obama? Guess what, they are going to say that anyway!

McConnell hung Boehner out to dry, and neither can articulate the idiocy of kicking the can down the road for 2 months. Worst is we get Obama all over the airways talking his ignorant nonsense this afternoon, trying to make himself out to be smart. He’s not smart, the Republicans are just so stupid.

Quite the contrary. Bonehead wants to depress conservative voters in the coming elections. Less new Tea Party Congresscritters means he keeps his job. A BIG new batch of Tea Partier Congresscritters and he’s a goner.

I’m not finished. When the chips are down, should one or both of these chattering duo win the presidency...watch out. They will probably cave to the slightest threat to our country. Will either of them remove the tzars put in place by nobama? Will they remove any of the “civil servants” put into place by the faithful muslims in Homeland Security?
Will they remove the “civil servants” put into place by Eric Holder in the Justice Department? How many other heads of departments in our governments have nobama’s appointmentees put into civil servant employment?

” - - - “Sometimes it’s politically difficult to do the right thing,” Boehner said.”

We pay you “Boehner-Head,” $172,000 plus benefits, staff, etc. per year to have the spine to protect us from the destruction of the SOCIALIST-DEMOCRATs in the US Federal Government.

Now that Senator Son-of-a-Mitch McConnell has joined the Socialist-Democrats, you are the ONLY non-Socialist leader in ALL of the US Federal Government.

We, the TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY, don’t give a damn about your personal “political difficulties,” because what we want is PROTECTION from the destructive might of the extreme, far-left, Socialist Democrats including Chairman Obama, “Bottleneck” Reid, Ex-Bottleneck Princess Nancy, and the far left-wing MSM’s Court of Public Opinion.

Boehner, you stood on the Battlefield, and then ran away like the coward that you really are. We will not trust you to fight for us again. Now we will fight them AND you.

WHAT THE HELL ARE WE PAYING “THE BOEHNER BOYS” TO DO?

SPINELESS, COWARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now is the time for all good men, and women to come to the aid of the Nation! Time to throw out the spineless politicians who voted to cave in to the Socialist-Democrat Wing of the once proud Democrat Party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Print their names on this thread.
