Nothing, apparently, gets between a man and his Air Jordans. In the latest episode of retail gone horribly awry, crowds of unruly shoppers across the country fought among themselves, scuffled with police, upended Christmas decorations and broke down doors leading up to today’s release of the most recent Michael Jordan-inspired basketball shoe. The unrest stretched from suburban Seattle to Jersey City, where a man was stabbed seven times as he waited in line to buy the $180 sneakers at the Newport Centre Mall, police said. The victim, set upon by several teenagers, was recovering at Jersey City Medical Center.

There is a difference between poor people and rich people. Poor people are not rich people without money. Poor people hope to buy happiness from things—new toys—symbols—in this case shoes. Does it make them happy—yes, for a short time only. They do not look to the future—its all about the now. The rich man can put off his happiness for something lasting that will make him money—Like buy a computer or go to school. Its a different life philosophy.

"Eric Holder is suing South Carolina for trying to implement a Voter ID Law. One of the Main reasons Holder and his ilk trot out is the poor can't afford an ID card; therefore, it is racism. I would like to propose inserting an ID card in every pair of Air Jordans. Problem Solved."

Post of the month!

So, why would Air Jordans be released two days before Christmas? Is this a scheduled release, or are the shipments delayed that much?

Someone’s marketing department needs a kick.

I went over to DUmmie land to see their take on this....It's not the buyers fault. It's the fault of the company to only release so many shoes. Therefore they are to blame. Evil, big, rich company!!!

“After stories such as these have been coming out over the last few years, I must assume that the store managers responsible for these sales promotions are idiots.”

They’re laughing all the way to the bank - I doubt they lose a moment’s sleep over the stabbing.

From the replies:

Why don’t we ever hear about these people fighting over some work boots?

If it wasn’t for the greedy right wingers this man would have been able to wait to buy them on eBay for $500.

Old joke:

You know how to starve them out?

Hide their food stamps under their work boots.

Are any of the news sources reporting this story allowing reader comments? I have noticed several are not. Curious.

Do these sneakers come in smaller sizes for children , and will they be wearing them while receiving free breakfast, lunch and dinner? Maybe robbed on the way to/from school next month ?

Just think of the all the future crime victims that are going to be assaulted/killed for the Air Jordans they were once wearing.

You should catch hell for that. Those should only be worn to formal events.

I limit myself to the $10 Walmart shoes. Did once splurge and buy a pair for $12. Flogged myself daily the rest of the summer.
