That is an excellent question. I did some forensic research on the letter. I re-fetched the letter from the website URL (http://www.rpv.org/sites/default/files/2012%20Petition%20Certification%20Process_1.pdf) and inspected the Last-Modified header in the HTTP packet using WireShark.

The Last-Modified header reports "Last-modified: Wed, 21 Dec 2011 15:25:25 GMT".

I then did search of text strings hidden within the .PDF file. I found the following text string:

>>/Author(Dave Rexrode) /Creator(
Microsoft
 Word 201
) /CreationDate(D:20111221100053-05'00') /ModDate(D:20111221100053-05'00') /Producer(
Microsoft
 Word 201
) <<

It appears that the PDF creation timestamp is 2011/12/21 10:00:53 EST. This corrolates to within 25 minutes of the HTTP Last-Modification timestamp of Wed, 21 Dec 2011 15:25:25 GMT. (EST is -5 hours from GMT.)

So it would seem that the letter was generated within the last 4 days.

There is a rumor over at Hot Air that the VA GOP rushed through the 15,000 signature rule just last month.

Question: Is the rumor true? Did the VA GOP rush through a new rule to create a 15,000 sig exemption with no checking? If so, why?

This is definitely worth investigating.

Snip: cross-checking the addresses that signature-givers gave against the electronic voter database file for accuracies.

I would question the accuracy of the data input to the "database". Also, if "street" doesn't = "st", etc. is it thrown out? This really smells, bad!

Absolutely.

However, that also means no whining if you fall short.

>>Romney” is being crammed down our throats...<<

Happens every election.

Along with elected officials scattering about hundreds of billions unaccounted for, expansion of TSA, militarization of Americas police agencies country wide, thousands more IRS agents, patriot act, defense auth act....scary scary stuff.

THE DAMAGE IS DONE.

Either Gingrich or his VA staff are incompetent, or both.

Or the establishment RINOs are a pack of vicious FASCIST dogs!

Gingrich is the leading Republican candidate both nationally and in Virginia! They cannot be allowed to keep him off the ballot!!

I’m confident Newt will receive enough write-ins to overcome the VA Establishment.

Jim, I'm still registered as a Repub. I still support the party...that is, I'm assuming and hoping the Tea Party can take over the apparatus.

Horse manure like this...and the repeated attempts to cram Romney down our throats...may mean 2012 is the last time I will support any Repub.

These RINOcrats are going to split the party.

I have had it up to here with these well-bred, uncalloused girly men handing the office back and forth like it's an entitlement.

This ends or I go shopping for a new party, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

If this evil bastard:

Is the best the Republicans have to offer, then I’m no longer a Republican.

We should institute a new pledge on FR... no new RINOs.

I’ll have to think long and hard about voting for him, or staying home. Tough decision!

It's looking more and more like I'll have to vote my conscience again

I was an enthusiastic supporter of Scott Brown; I think it's great he won office. At the time there was a lot of support for his running for prez at some point.

I was of the opinion that I liked him fine as a Senator from Massachusetts...but that I would never support anyone for prez who had won a statewide election in Mass.

When Romney ran against Kennedy for his seat he ran to the left of Kennedy, for God's sake.

Romney is a political shape shifter who has no identifiable beliefs or ideas. I don't believe he has ever changed his mind, just his positions.

I hoped the Repub party could be reformed. I guess we'll see...

Either Gingrich or his VA staff are incompetent, or both.

If competency means a candidate is able to produce over 10K legitimate signatures in Virginia, then none of our candidates have demonstrated "competency".

Ben are you just here trying to convince the little people that they actually have a choice in the flavor of cr@p sandwich that the E-Publicans are fixing to serve up?

Illusions of honest elections are harder to maintain when the little people get too nosy, huh?

I’m just calling it as I see it.

I personally am feeling quite vindicated. If it could happen to Cain, then it can happen to anybody. Especially Newt.

His backers are going to be disappointed when he’s the second empty shell in the shell game. Doesn’t matter who you flip over, we lose.

Why the **ll do people here think this is Rove? Sure I despise him, but why are we thinking him and not Rahm????

The same result is Romney vs. Obama.

I say this is Rahm, Soros and Obama doing this.

It’s that type of attitude that’s going to get us Romney.

Sounding the alarm now because we have time to fix it.

The ones pushing the empty shell game are the ones you should be concerned.
