I got the emails. It’s not a big deal. Accidents happen.

Hopefully those who did have subscriptions take advantage of this opportunity to cancel their subscriptions and demand a refund.

Its always good to turn off emails from your test servers.

Not that they’ve ever had remotely close to 8 million subscribers at any time. Of course they keep lists of all former subscribers, but I got two of these spammy email notices from them and I’ve sure NEVER subscribed to either print or web NY Times.
Presumably they had my email address bc I have written in years past to correct some of their more egregious errors. This suggests that they accumulate email addresses of non-subscribers like me who are foolish enough to write to them for any reason. However, I never requested or consented to any kind of marketing from them, only wrote to criticize editorial and news output. Thus, it is truly “spam” to send any sales/marketing emails, even accidentally, to people like me who are NOT willing customers.

Me too. It was shortly followed by a “never mind” note.

It’s the kind of “accident” that anyone involved with email marketing should take strenuous steps to avoid.
As I noted in another comment here, I have NEVER been any “customer” of theirs — never a subscriber.
Presumably I got two of these spammy emails because they have “harvested” my email address when I wrote many years ago to criticize editorial and news output. They should not have my email address in any list that could have been even “accidentally” marketed to in this way, since I never consented to receive anything outside of the specific topics I wrote to them about regarding public policy etc.

Don’t worry, NY Times. Liberals can’t read anyway.

“Not that theyve ever had remotely close to 8 million subscribers at any time.”
That’s what hit me first - they have 8 million subscribers?
Thanks for clarifying!
