No, I don't agree. His positions are his positions because he is a dogmatic libertarian and being such it is coincidental that Washington gave that speech. Libertarians are guided completely by Libertarian dogma. If you look into the Founding Fathers you will see that some of them were all for getting into "foreign entanglements".
We seemed to have a “foreign entanglement” in north Africa in the early 1800’s. Seems like the writer of the Declaration of Independence was President at the time. Then of course we did the “Louisiana Purchase”, same Prez. So a dogmatic line didn't seem to be part of the Founders thinking. Those men were wise and practical and experienced, not dogmatic.
What is troublesome however is that there just doesn't seem to be anyone on the election circuit who profoundly supports the idea of smaller government.
Yeah, even they had some ‘help’ from foreign allies, such as the French,(biggest ally) Spanish, Dutch, Polish, a few Germans (Von Steuben), etc.. Although some of them were a few individuals. Some were entire governments like the French.
I’m wondering if Washington might have advised that about the “foreign entanglements” because at that time, America was still such a little nation? He didn’t want it to become “helped” by another country, that could easily taken over it in it’s infant stage! Who knows if he would’ve advised that in this day and age?
