New Rasmussen IA poll shows Santorum surge
The Washington Examiner ^ | December 29, 2011 | Byron York

Pollster Scott Rasmussen has just released a new poll of likely Iowa caucus-goers which shows Mitt Romney and Ron Paul in a virtual tie for first place -- 23 percent and 22 percent, respectively. Rasmussen's poll also supports other polling showing an increase in support for Rick Santorum. In the new survey, Santorum is in third place in Iowa, with 16 percent -- up from ten percent a little more than a week ago.

Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry are tied at 13 percent, and Michele Bachmann is at five percent. Jon Huntsman is at three percent....

There was some criticism of a CNN poll released yesterday showing Romney ahead of Paul by a 25 percent to 22 percent margin. That poll just counted registered Republicans, and a significant part of Paul's support comes from non-Republicans who plan to take part in the caucuses. The new Rasmussen poll surveys all likely caucus-goers, not just Republicans.

As long as Romney places weak in Iowa and lack competitiveness in SC, then I’m all for it. I’m not sure Rick can compete in the other states, financially speaking, though.

There’s a good chance Gingrich craters into 5th.

Gingrich will win all the Southern Primaries, not sure about Texas.

Gingrich will the most states once all is said and done.

Great, now endless yapping from the Santorum ghouls. Can’t wait until the IA caucuses are over.

You got it! Perry will be out long before Texas comes up — so Newt wins there, TOO.

I thought Herman Cain was leading in most states?

Look, the national poll pictures and the polls in every state after Iowa will change following the Iowa result.

And then change again after New Hampshire.

And then again after South Carolina.

Polls showing leads in later states mean nothing until the week prior. Right now all we know is that in Iowa, Gingrich has either hit bottom at 13-15% or is still falling toward single digits.

They’re Rombots in disguise costumes.

Newt will go on to get his top threes in IA & SC. Then HUGE decisive wins in SC & FL.

Game over.

Ok this is great!!! Go Santorum!!! He is such a great family values person. It sickens me when people bring up that he supported Arlen. Yes he did and was punished for it in 2006 when he lost his Senate seat. That should be the end of the punishment. He should be supported 100 percent now. I grew up in Pennsylvania and was a state resident for 41 years. I voted for Santorum in 2006, but it was an awful year for Republicans. Anyway nobody should be bashing Santorum at all. He has done VERY little to deserve it. There are only two things that he has as “baggage” and that is the endorsement and his homeschool thingee. That is IT and I can live with those two things if it means that he is President!!!!!

He might have a heck of a time winning Virginia. /Sarc. I just hate it when people say “ALL” because that is not always a true statement.

The only thing that comes from Santorum winning or coming close to winning Iowa.. is that he stays in the race longer splitting the conservative vote and thus helping Romney.

I am hoping and praying that Santorum and Bachmann drop out after Iowa, so that conservatives can rally to Gingrich. Perry will be in at least until South Carolina.

But the quicker we shrink this field down to Romney and Gingrich the better.

Santorum hasn’t got a chance in heck of winning the nomination, and can only act as a spoiler to Gingrich.

When Bachmann drops out, it’ll be a relief not to have to hear about her raising 23 foster children and being a tax atty and a small business owner.

I know people who are foster parents and here’s the deal: They usually have the children for brief periods of time until they are adopted or go back to their deadbeat parents, in some cases.
She did not RAISE 23 of them. She graciously helped them on their journey but let’s be honest, Michele.

Hope you're right. But from the looks of it, the conservative vote may end up being too split thanks to Santorum/Bachmann/etc. folks. Romney may well end up coasting to victory because conservatives are too divided.
