I’m guessing (don’t know) that this is about the fancy spas at high end hotels and resorts, not any seedy “massage parlor” of disrepute.
The Islamists will wreck the entire hotel biz for the Maldives since many women of comfortable means will not care to vacation at places with no “luxury spa.”
It’s a highly competitive world, and couples have lots and lots of other places to vacation without even considering the Maldives anymore.

I guess President Nasheed didn’t have the stones to stand his ground.
“To build our economy we need foreign investments and we need to create an environment in which foreigners can invest,” Nasheed said.
“We can’t achieve development by going backwards to the stone age or being ignorant,” he added.
