2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

We’ll see.

Have you ever heard of “the Angle” at Gettysburg? It is also referred to as the The High-water Mark of the Confederacy.

That’s Rick Santorum tonight.

There are many more battle to come.

Politics is a business. There are rules.
You just don't oppose an incumbent Republican in your own State.
Santorum cut a good deal.
That is the most we can expect.

Pffft!

Only a few weeks ago the race was Perry’s to lose.

This is an open caucus, pretty well meaningless.
It is having ZERO effect on who I support.

Yes! She must! They both believe in the right to life of ALL babies.

Now to FOX—Baier is interviewing the skank Mark Sanford who abandoned his duties as Gov of SC to have a tryst with his South American mistress!!!

Has FOX lost its mind? Giving credibility to filthy crazy men like Sanford!!!

Carry on the boycott of FOX!

Just finished at our caucus site. I guessed we’d have 200 and we did which blew the doors of ‘08. Had to lock the doors and turn people away and that was 7:15 and we were WAY beyond fire code. Santorum blew the doors off the place with about 32% of the vote.

Palin needs to get some skin in the game and ENDORSE ONE of..

Yep or she'll be in the dustbin of history. If she plays her endorsement out like she did if or not she would run then I'll be pretty much scratching her off my favorable sheet. She's beginning to irk me.

I won’t vote for Romney even if he picks Sarah for VP. Period.

Freddie Newt is getting sliced and diced in Iowa.

They are only talking about the top 3, Win, Place or Show.
Santorum’s contributions will rise very quickly.

Freddie Newt will have have to loan his campaign millions from his personal wealth to compete. Will he loan money to his campaign from his personal wealth? We shall see.

Newt is the true threat to Romney. Yes, Santorum hit the trail virtually unscathed by massive attacks...for Newt to do as well as he did being the target of not only Romney and Paul but of Fox News is quite a feat for Gingrich.

A correct analysis. But who is that Fox News you referred to? Did you mean to say Faux News? I’ve been hearing a lot about them lately. ;-)

We lost in 1992, 1996, and 2008. Insist on too far right and we will lose in 2012.

You have it backwards. Do you realize who our candidates were those years? George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole and John McCain. Not exactly bastions of conservatism.

Today she [Sarah] had called MB to go back to Congress, (sweet revenge).

I agree. It was deliciously sweet revenge for that knife Michelle stuck in her back last year.

Cool, I said 800 votes would be about the difference between the Anti-Romney and Romney.

I was worried I underestimated Huntsman when I gave him 804 votes. Looks like he may not even get there.

Probably won’t get to do my county-by-county review until tomrrow because I got to get up for work at 6

Mark Sanford on Fox now,(sad what he’s done with his rep.) but was making sense that South Carolina will be more creditable than Iowa when it comes to voting for our POTUS.

Yes that too....I am liking Rich better..

Have a friend with special needs daughter. Santorum has a special needs daughter too ( As does Sarah with her son ).

These folks get life, like we don't, and they are humble... it might be quite the juxtaposition to the arrogance we have seen from Oboingo. It would be good for America IMHO...
