You see it everywhere. People want security. They want someone to take care of them. They don’t want to be responsible for their own actions. They want a good life and want someone else to pay for it. They don’t want to face risk and hard work even if it means that, overall, they are going to live much worse than if they took chances and risks. Its the slow process of adding more and more government benefits and not realizing that government is crowding out private choice, or that all those benefits need to be paid for through forcible means.

And did you catch Friedman’s conclusion? He says it all ends in tyranny/slavery.

Yes, I did see that. We are almost there now. We are in the stage where people think they can vote themselves a huge amount of benefits and have “the rich” pay for it all. What they don’t understand or don’t want to believe is that to sustain these benefits, there will need to be a huge Middle Class tax hike. Everyone will be working for the government and having the government control a huge chunk of your paycheck. How is that not slavery?

The money is only part of what we are going to be harnessed with. Along with that we lose all of our civil liberties and are oppressed in every way the Soviet Union oppressed their own.

Old joke: The workers pretend to work and the government pretends to pay them.

That's how communism works, it's sad when so many Americans are ignorant of what it means to allow your liberties be slowly compromised, we already have the empirical proof of the last 50 years simply observing how it nearly destroyed all of eastern Europe.
