“Economists forecast that weekly applications fell by 6,000 to a seasonally adjusted 375,000 last week,”

If every single unemployment forecast is “seasonally adjusted”, why “adjust” any of them?

Just a joke - no slur intended!

“The Department of Labor is not playing with the numbers”

I guess the persistent revisions ‘up’ in jobless claims for the last two years makes me skeptical.

I’ll bet my house on this.

If Bush or a republican was ion power the real numbers of unemployment would be mentioned at every chance by this corrupt so called media.
They would include those who are not getting unemployment now, those who are forced to early retire etc but because they have their vested interest in power the numbers, the real numbers are not mentioned.
Shows like the today show, Good morning America push the lefts agenda so much they must be tired.

Speaking of which I’ve had the MIL down here for a few weeks and she watches those two awful shows, how the hell can anyone with half a brain watch them, girlie men telling women what to wear, etc.

You are precisely correct.

The propaganda coming from the DNCmedia is stunning. I have seen it happen gradually but the gloves came off in 2000 and they abandoned any pretense that they are journalists.

Have you heard the DNCmedia mention even ONE scandal about hussein? NEVER.

If you control the media you control the masses. Hitler never had it this good.

That’s why Obama’s regime is such a failure. The media protects him and gives him an aura of competence that he does not have. By doing that, they encourage him to be lazy, arrogant, and dishonest.

Thanks for posting. Bears repeating:

Direct from the Department of Labor website:

The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 535,112 in the week ending December 31, an increase of 37,423 from the previous week. There were 578,904 initial claims in the comparable week in 2010.

Seems like the adjusted numbers and the unadjusted numbers are going in opposite directions. You would think your average, red-blooded financial journalist would have a healthy skepticism about that. You can adjust all you want, but the reality is that about 37,000 more people last week started drawing on the already strained resources of state and federal unemployment insurance. About 37,000 more families face greater financial uncertainty, not 15,000 less.

Its sort of like the captain of the Titanic announcing - “Good news - we are sinking slower than an hour ago.”

These numbers need to improve considerably more and much faster to stop the sinking.

The entire labor pool is shrinking. Many in their 50’s,60’s and early 70’s are retiring, no jobs....

how many people are actually WORKING.....according to Rush, we have many less people working now...fewer jobs...so naturally when there are fewer jobs, we’ll see fewer jobs “lost”....jokes on us...

I had thought that the unemployment statistics take into account fluctuations due to holiday hiring and so that the unemployment rate dropped even if you dont count Christmas hires.

It DID happen! When the unemployment rate climbed over 5% during the Bush years, the left-wing “news” media were writing story after story about how horrible the economy supposedly was!

Oh, and I agree completely about how idiotic and stupid the Today Show and Good Morning America are. Gays, lesbos, and girly men make up their entire cast.

I wouldn’t necessarily bet on it. They discount people who are not actively looking, so who can say what’s valid?

I keep telling people that you have to discount ALL of the economic numbers put out by the government from Thanksgiving thru the end of January. The numbers are BOGUS!

My sister works on Wall Street and she says that the financial industry DOES NOT believe these numbers at this time of the year - they are an aberration.

Retail hires seasonal workers who will be let go sometime after Christmas, people stop looking for work because rejection depresses them during the holiday season, and firms [that have to make layoffs] DO NOT like to do it just before Christmas.

After Christmas, seasonal workers are laid off, people start looking for work again, and firms start letting people go. All of these hit the unemployment rolls again at the end of January.

FYI: Sears/KMart is layng off about 6000-10000 workers, Boeing just eliminated 2000 jobs in Kansas City, and Filene’s Basement [and Syms] just closed forever. There are also a loot of Mom & Pop’s that are closing, but their employee numbers are unknown.
