He’s LEADING.

Newt and Perry are the vote splitters - not Santorum.

Dude, so all the people in central Iowa were ‘brainwashed’ into supporting Santorum?

Sorry, don’t see it. The surge is real, this poll confirms what Iowa told us.

He’s gotta beat Santorum. Right now, that’s not looking likely. Lost to Santorum in Iowa. Losing to Santorum in NH, and now losing to Santorum in South Carolina.

Maybe we just want an actual conservative, and not someone who’s willing to sit on couches with Pelosi.

“Doin’ stuff” ain’t why we choose a president.

Certified results aren’t in yet.

At worst, it’s a tie. He did get 2x the vote of Newt.

True probably 2 weeks ago. Now, not the case. The game has changed.

Well, I'm not a defeatist like you, and I'm old enough to remember this same narrative being played out prior to Reagan's victory in 1980.

Are we a different country than we were in 1980? Well, yes we are. But so what? Obama and his Marxist minions have sent the country on a downward spiral. There is no better time than today to remind the voting population of the differences between collectivism and conservatism. If we can't win that argument today, then we are in an irreversible spiral. You concede that spiral already exists. I don't believe it does.

What you want is to surrender to someone who, in the big picture, offers very little difference from Obama. They are both statists. That being the case, I'll take my chances with the uncharismatic conservative. I believe the voting population has had enough with charisma (and hope and change) over the past three years. We listened to your BS four years ago, and we ended up with someone who couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag. Been there, done that. No thanks.

You may see benefits from adopting a surrender monkey posture on the upcoming election. I'm not a surrender monkey so I hope you'll excuse me if I don't behave like one.

Somehow, Santorum, Newt, and Perry need to whittle that number of three candidates down to one. The only way Romney wins is for the conservative vote to be split 3 or 4 ways.

At some point...and sadly it will probably not be until after South Carolina, some of them need to drop out so the conservative vote can coalese.

At that point however, it is entirely possible that Ronmney will have won all three initial primaries and gaining more strength himself.

Any of the three, Santorum, Perry, or Newt are fine with me. Santorum is strongest on the social/moral issues which are critical. I believe Perry and Newt would be stronger overall leaders.

Until one of them goes one on one against Romney though, they will be hurting themselves, splitting the vote, and opening the door for Romney to win more and more states.

.I agree with everything you wrote. It is not the federal gov responsibility and it is unfortunate that conservatives don’t take away liberals biggest weapon. Have a good day.

that’s why I was hoping Perry would step out, since he’s the lowest of the conservatives now and we have to compete against Romney...not split the vote.

“Doin’ stuff” ain’t why we choose a president.

You make my point well. Many conservatives want someone who talks the game but always forget that talk is cheap. Gingrich, warts and all, has been at the forefront of modern conservative activism for years. Perry has been a successful conservative big-state governor. Even Huntsman has been a good conservative governor, albeit in a small already conservative state.

Minor-leaguers like Santorum, Cain, and Bachmann are talkers. They’ve never had to make actual executive decisions in the political realm. They vote on procedures, they talk in the well, they go on tv. That’s the easy part of being a conservative. “When I get elected I’m eliminating the Dept of Education!” We all know, of course, that is total BS and is never going to happen. It’s just yak. But it sure sounds good.

Give me Perry, Gingrich, or Huntsman anytime. They’ve all made mistakes, but that’s because they’ve actually been IN the game, not just talking about the game.

“He’s gotta beat Santorum. Right now, that’s not looking likely”

LOL, It’s early and now Santorum faces the gauntlet, we’ll see how he responds to that.

We have 2 primary cycles and several debates upcoming...NH is irrelevant....SC/Florida decides the conservative candidate.

Anybody trailing after those two (who doesn’t drop out Sant/Gingrich/Perry is doing the bidding of Romney.

“You make my point well. Many conservatives want someone who talks the game but always forget that talk is cheap.”

You miss my point. I don’t want a president who ‘does stuff’. I want them to be the perfect do-nothing president.

Look at Obama. If we want a president to ‘do stuff’, then he’s perfect.

Get out of the way of the American people, and let us live our lives without the Presidency getting in the way.

“Gingrich, warts and all, has been at the forefront of modern conservative activism”

Bully for him. I don’t want an activist.

“Minor-leaguers like Santorum, Cain, and Bachmann”

Well that minor leaguer just drubbed Newt in Iowa.

But conservative voters can choose one among the three...and if they are smart enough they could choose Santorum....And Santorum should begin to fight harder and stronger to hit Obamination

I’m just sayin’ 2 weeks ago Newt was leading by 15. Now he’s down by 8.

That’s a huge swing. Santorum’s gone from nothing to 24. And it’s not just this poll either (and PPP is the best).

If it were isolated, sure, but everyone’s showing a Santorum surge at this point in the game.
