Family of dead robbery suspect speaks(VA)

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The family of a robbery suspect, shot and killed in the act, is speaking out.

Police say Raymond Davis, 22, of Norfolk, and two other men tried to rob Rogers Sport's Pub in Chesapeake Friday Night.

Witnesses told WAVY.com one of the patrons in the bar shot and killed Davis during the attempted robbery. It's the same story detectives told his grandmother Sheila Davis.

"The man went outside and came back in with his gun and shot him down," said Davis. "It's like shooting a dog down. He is a human being."

Davis says her grandson got mixed up with the wrong crowd. While she doesn't condone his behavior, she wants the public to respect her family in this time of grief.

"I'm not trying to sweet-coat nothing," said Davis. "He went in there to rob the place, but eventually he got killed is the result of it."

Witnesses say Davis and two other men entered the bar armed, wearing masks, and demanding money.

Shelia Davis is asking police to investigate the circumstances of the shooting and what happened after her grandson fell to the floor.

"They beat him with pool sticks," said Davis. "Why would you beat a person with pool sticks when he's already laying on the floor dead?"

Davis says her grandson was in the process of turning his life around. She says he had a steady job at a nearby McDonald's, and was the father to a 2-year-old with another baby on the way.

"They sit there and talk about it like it's a joke or something," said Davis. "It's not a joke. My grandson is gone. He's never coming back."

Police won't say if the person who shot Davis could possibly face charges.

They are still looking for the two other suspects who fled, possibly in a light blue Ford Taurus.

Her son lost his expectations of life and liberty when he put on a ski mask and threatened the lives and liberty of his victims. HE was NOT the victim. He was a perpetrator.

But if a mother in grief wants to think he was a misunderstood angel who fluttered into the wrong crowd, far be it from me to take her opiate away.

How about “got mixed up with the wrong crowd”?

Notice the perp in question never IS “the wrong crowd”.

”Why would you beat a person with pool sticks when he’s already laying on the floor dead?”

I agree. That is really bad for pool cues. A good one can set you back $30 or more. Hopefully they were just using those cheap generic pine ones.

So far, I'm not seeing a problem.

How come nobody ever admits to *being* the wrong crowd.

"It appears the person interviewed is his grandmother, not the mother"

I'm not surprised that NO FATHER is mentioned.....75%+ of blacks have no "fathers". Isn't that special?

Usually, it's an "ONT" (aka, Aunt) that comes forward for black yewts.

With the mentality/culture/dependence foisted on blacks by "Progressives", ie, live in public housing, don't ever get a job, live on your EBT's, have more babies by unknown fathers and increase the payments to you, open a daycare, for all the black un-identified-father kids, and get even MORE money, etc.

What a culture.

Being treated like he can do no wrong was probably what got him killed Gramma.

My guess is that he accidentally moved some of the balls on the table, and there was money on the game.

They should dig up Lyndon Johnson and beat him with pool sticks too. In the final calculation of a just world, he was an accessory to this crime.

being judgemental here,
If he really was turning it around he would not have been involved in an armed robbery.
As for the folks smacking him with pool cues after getting shot I can’t blame them. They were afraid and mad and he did it.

"The respons has become stereotypical on freerepublic. "

Blah! Blah! Blah!

From the article you posted:

"Davis says her grandson got mixed up with the wrong crowd." {As if the family of every other thug in that crowd could not say the same thing.}

"Davis says her grandson was in the process of turning his life around." {As if that process could ever include armed robbery.}

When someone writes and someone else posts such stereotypical lies as exculpatory, they have no right to expect any better.

Granny’s response is stereotypical. He was a good boy who just fell in with the wrong crowd, trying to turn his life around, blah blah blah. Any one of us could have written her script.

Yes, granny, every good boy walks into a bar armed and masked during an attempted hold up.

She claims she’s not trying to make excuses, the entire time making excuses. And in the meanwhile has no doubt met with a lawyer to see if the shooter or bar owner has any financial culpability.

This story line is old and trite. I may despise the “Great Society,” but in the nearly half century since it was brought into being, there have been not only horrific consequences in the ‘hood, but also thousands of young black men who walked the straight line, did the right thing, and worked their way out of it despite the odds. It does become a matter of personal choice.

Can you say detached from reality?

What LBJ and the Democrats have done, intentionaly or not, to the black family, has created horrific consequences

They also did it in Johannesburg? Rio? Haiti? Sudan? Nigeria? England? Jamaica? Soweto?
