Monday’s snow broke the 1998’s daily snowfall record and pushed the 2011-12 winter season past the 1946-47 seasonal snowfall record, the National Weather Service in Midland reported.
As of press time, 7:30 p.m. Monday, the NWS reported 10.4 inches of snow had fallen since 7 a.m., bringing the seasonal snowfall figure for 2011-12 to 19.3 inches. The previous daily snowfall record was set Dec. 11, 1998, at 9.8 inches the previous season snowfall record was set in 1946-47 at 13.9 inches.
Cancelations rippled on toward the Midland International Airport as well. The airport reported airlines had opted to cancel all of Monday’s departures.
The Odessa District of TxDOT reported eight snow plows came from the Lubbock District of TxDOT to help clear roads outside of the city limits, which include Highway 191, Interstate 20, Business Interstate 20, Loop 338 and Highway 158.

Its like spring here in the midwest.
It will be 50 degrees here in Minneapolis today. I haven’t plowed my driveway yet this season.
Kinda makes you wish the global warming crap was real doesn’t it?
Last year they were ice fishing here on the lake two weeks before Christmas. This year its starting to look like there will be no ice fishing.

Eighteen degrees here this morning. Snow was so deep dog took his morning dump in a tire track. I’m old school — showed up for work a few minutes after 7 a.m. When no one was here by 8:00 I called a supervisor who said work would start at 9:00. Thanks for letting me know...

I’ll never forget Christmas day of 2004. I woke up with the ground covered in snow.

I had never seen snow before, living in semi-tropical Corpus.

CORPUS CHRISTI — For more than 100 years, the most snow accumulation in Corpus Christi had been 1.6 inches until Christmas of 2004.
That night and early morning, nearly five inches of snow fell for one of the rarest White Christmas days in the U.S. (in 1918 Corpus Christi saw .1 inch of snow on Christmas day). Presents actually could wait as kids and grownups grabbed whatever they could to hit the snow-covered hills

Well, no snow in my part of NH, which works for me.
As I age, I’m beginning to appreciate the lure of Florida.
Except every hurricane that I remember hitting the northeast,
and I lived on Cape Cod as a kid, hit Florida first.
Oh well, back out to move some more wood in. Just because it hasn’t snowed doesn’t mean it isn’t cold.
Yep, hope this helps with the drought situation.
Remember how Obama criticized Rick Perry, to paraphrase, that “the governor of state which is on fire denies global warming”.
Sorry, couldn’t resist taking a shot at Obama, being reminded of the devastating fires in Texas, for which any serious person would blame on drought conditions, NOT global warming.
I’m still puzzled why Obama would have said such a stupid thing about a state experiencing a fire disaster.
What I remember is Perry held a prayer meeting where a stadium of people prayed for rain. Then it rained.
Moisture in any form is welcome. Sunlight this a.m. is melting it fast.

This reminds me that I was talking to someone more liberal, and she was absolutely shocked that Rick Perry went into a stadium prayer rally. Separation of Church and State, she exclaimed!
I tried to explain to her that the prayer rally was NOT an official state of Texas event, and that Rick Perry attended as a private citizen expressing his religious beliefs.
It doesn’t matter, she said. She said that since he was governor, it created the impression that the state of Texas officially endorses Christianity.
So does the government officially endorse Alice in Wonderland, when Obama has his Alice in Wonderland party at the White House? That party was a private party of the Obamas, not an official government function.
I just don’t understand liberal logic sometimes.
Same here in CT. We had a freak snowstorm in Oct but pretty quiet since then. After last winter, I’m not complaining.
Snow is good for the drought in the Texas though, so maybe it is a blessing in disguise for them.
I do wish all this moisture some people are getting buried with would spread out, so all of New Mexico could enjoy it.
