Statement by Gov. Rick Perry on Federal Appeals Court Overturning Injunction of Sonogram Law
Office of the Governor Rick Perry ^ | 10th January 2011 | Governor Rick Perry

Posted on 01/10/2012 11:28:09 AM PST by shield

Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision to overturn a district judge's injunction against Texas' sonogram law:

"Today's ruling is a victory for all who stand in defense of life. Every life lost to abortion is a tragedy, and this important sonogram legislation ensures that every Texas woman seeking an abortion has all the facts about the life she is carrying, and understands the devastating impact of such a life-ending decision. We will continue to fight any attempt to limit our state's laws that value and protect the unborn."

I can easily support this. After all, hasn’t it been shown that a sonogram reduces the chances of a woman choosing abortion? A woman should be able to have as much medical knowledge about her baby as possible.

Nicely played!

He just keeps pushing.. sticks with it..then wins or begins a new assault, but doesn’t give up.

Marcella says: This law begins a slippery slope to take away your liberty relating to your medical decisions.

The contrary is true. This law ENDS a slippery slope to take away your liberty relating to your medical decisions by way of a fully INFORMED decision regarding an unreversible and major step which can now be made in a fully informed context. A decision based on partial information is not an empowered position.

Perry: not the saviest candidate. Not a great debater.

Just really good at getting things done!

Perry had nothing to do with this. It was TX Attorney General Greg Abbott's office that was responsible for the appeal.

The law in question mandates that COMPLETE diagnostic information be provided to the patient prior to the ACTUAL medical procedure. A sonogram is non-invasive, and in the context of this law it very likely may save lives, i.e., the lives of the unborn that you claim to be in support of.

For years there hasn't been an abortion in Texas without a sonogram. The abortionists order them to document the stage of pregnancy, so they can be paid more for later abortions. What the law does is require the physician let the woman seeking the abortion to see the sonogram at least 24 hours before the procedure is to be performed. This is what any other physician would do when consulted about a produre or operation. It means abortionists actually have to meet with their patients before the procedure and tell them what they will be doing. They can't just anonymously enter the room, perform the procedure, and leave without ever meeting the patient. I can see why abortionists don't like it. They can't just have an assembly line of patients to perform abortions on whose only interaction is in an operating room.

Oh come on...you know better than that. Abbott is the Texas AG and Perry is the Texas Governor. So you think if Abbott had not gone forward on this, Perry would also have not had Abbott move forward on this? Oh please...

It requires a person to have a medical procedure, therfore, it does force that person to have that procedure.

Do you oppose a woman having a pregnancy test before having an abortion? I mean the State of Texas requires that doctors ensure you are pregnant before commencing an abortion, so should that be removed as well? More importantly, MOST DOCTORS RECOMMEND A SONOGRAM before an abortion, so how is this invasive? This is as invasive as requiring the doctor to perform a pregnancy test before you kill a child - but THIS procedure is "bad law" to you?
These are diagnostic procedures that, according to your thinking, should not be required before a licensed-murderer, err, uh, I mean doctor, performs an abortion.

If anything, you should appreciate this procedure. It will allow the doctor to more easily determine the "lump of mass" in the uterus, help easily locate "it" and should limit the extra step of stabbing "it" in the back of the head to ensure "it" is dead before completely removing that "lump" from a woman.

The Attorney General is elected directly by the voters of Texas. I hardly think he needed Perry’s urging to take up the matter.

“Where would you want to stop this?”

I think I’d stop it just BEFORE your flawed thought that the liberty (aka “choice”) of the decision-maker takes precedence over the life of the helpless.

Life ALWAYS trumps liberty EXCEPT when both the life you place at risk, and the decision to risk it, are your own.

One of the more dedicated and obnoxious feminists, Naomi Wolf maybe, became completely pro-life after seeing the sonogram of her baby sucking its thumb. No, it wasn’t Wolf. Rats! I can’t think of her name, but she went on all the shows and when the subject came up she’d say, “After seeing my baby suck her thumb in my womb, I could never again lie to myself and say it wasn’t a life or that abortion wasn’t murder.”

What’s your beef here anyway? I didn’t say he did but by your stating Perry had nothing to do with this is wrong. Once the feds stepped into this, as the chief executive of the state as Perry is, I’m sure Perry contacted Abbott or Abbott automatically contacted Perry [they are good friends]. IF Abbott had NOT filed this after the fed judge’s ruling you can bet Perry would have been all over him to file this appeal.

Yeah, it’s much better when the abortionist, his receptionist, and his nurse are lying to the woman/girl that it’s not really a baby, “it’s in the ‘fish stage’ of development”.

I hope so. I sincerely hope so.

Do you or does anyone know if poor, black inner-city women are offered sonograms? They have such a devastatingly high rate of abortion I cannot believe any of them have ever seen their babies living and breathing in their womb...
