I wonder if Rush's blistering of Newt has more to do with the fact that by going after Romney and his roles at Bain has not only tarnished Romney but also Bain?

Remember, it's Bain that in large part owns Clear Channel that in turn owns Premiere Radio Networks that in turn syndicates Rush's program. Also Rush's program is cleared on many, many Clear Channel owned stations and they may in fact be the largest group that clears Rush's show*. This may be as much about Newt causing collateral damage/black eye to Bain because he went so hard after Romney. There may have been some behind the curtain pressure. *On July 30, 2008, the Clear Channel announced the completion of a merger with an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of CC Media Holdings, Inc., a corporation formed by a private equity group co-led by Bain Capital Partners, LLC and Thomas H. Rush disclosed Clear Channel's connection with Bain yesterday. But I also thought I heard him say that CC was his former syndicator.

I would actually have no problem with that. I don’t think Rush would let that influence him anyway. I’m just confused by the energy that went into defending Romney. Maybe he just doesn’t think a Romney pres. would be so bad and that he just wants Obama out. But why go after Newt so hard?
