Whatever happened to the term “victimless” crime? Why should the state step in to prefer charges when the “victim”, a grown adult, objects?
Mandatory charges? That might make sense where the aggressor breaks bones and the victim still wants to drop charges, but an arm grab and a bruise? Common sense forbidden by law. Or maybe the sheriff is just on someone’s political s-— list.
