I could care less about McCain - but I have said on occasion when a Freeper pulls one vote, or one comment on a decent candidate and then calls the person a RINO - that I seriously think Reagan would have a hard time getting elected. Or at least getting total agreement by Freepers on the internet.
Lots of things Reagan did in his past and as president that wouldn’t have made the grade if taken individually.
As Governor of CA, pushed for ban on open carry of guns. (Black Panthers on the courthouse steps and all).
As former President, endorsed passage of the Brady bill.
Divorced. (gasp!!!!)
Turned tail and ran from Lebanon after the Marines were bombed.
God only knows what would have been dug up on him when he was a Democrat.
Reagan wasn’t perfect. None of our candidates are. And it gets frustrating when we rag on someone when they are only 80% “right”.
While some of these single-issue things ARE very important, I’m not sure that some comment, or a minor vote based on that one issue should turn the person into a “Rino”.

He did not send troops into Lebanon due to a war, they were sent there to defend the country and populace from (wait for it) attacks from militant Islamists. The Lebanese population complained loudly about having US troops on their soil and were given a crappy place to stay by the government. After the bombing attack killed our men, there was a (surprise) celebration by the Lebanese people. They were happy that the infidels were killed. Reagan wisely said “well, then F ‘em” and took our boys out. It was the right thing to do.
