I agree with Col. West and his punishment assessment. What we as Americans should also see is a video of what these Soldiers are subjected to in war...ie a video of what the Taliban(enemy) has done to the men, women and children of the villages that they have gone into and decimated. That would be one hell of a video for all to see to get a clear picture. Just sayin’
The two most successful examples of "nation building" in history are Japan and Germany, post war. It has long been my contention that the reason that it has been so successful is that we FIRST beat the crap out of the entire country, including "civilian" casualties...as if Germans and Japs were ever really civilians....they made it possible for the war machine to continue. In Iraq, because we were sooooo careful to avoid "pissing" in the diretcon of a mosque, let alone allowing terrorists safe harbor in them, the insurrection lasted for 5 years after the "war" was over. We suffered MORE KIA and WIA after hostilities officially ended, and probably tens of thousands of Iraqis were killed and maimed in that period. Had we fought the war without worrying about political correctness, put the fear of God in the populace..they had to fear us MORE than the terrorists they harbored...it might have been all over in a few short months, and Iraq woul be a better place for it today.
Your #62 is dead on. As any military member knows, you need get someone’s attention first before you can expect their discipline.

I disagree with the WWII comparison.
When Germany surrendered, the insurgency was short-lived, b/c, really, what was the point? National Socialism as an ethos was dead and buried, and no amount of guerilla raids was going to change that.
When Japan surrendered, the Emperor said it was over. Who’s going to counter the Emperor?
In the case of Islam, who do you subjugate to get them to calm the hell down? There is no central leadership caste, no central anything really. When you utterly crush Iraq, how has that affected Iran? Or Saudi Arabia? Or Indonesia? Or Pakistan? Or Afghanistan? The ONLY answer would be to pursue complete annihilation and even the U.S. of the 1940s didn’t have the will to do any such thing.
This war is totally different from any other in our history and drawing comparisons is fruitless.
I have read that it is part of the jihad religion that if a jihadist goes to heaven pissed on, he does not get the 72 virgins. If this is true, then, that is a feature of this war on jihadi terrorists and fair game.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what the mediots want. If we don’t go to war, the crap that we fight will grow, and conquer the world, if it hasn’t already.
That likely would have happened had they not been so stupid as to allow the video to access the internet. Or better yet, not videoed themselves in the act........Stupid is as stupid does and whatever comes down, they brought it on themselves.
My point is they want a police action and not a war, and if we ever meet an enemy that wages war we will be doomed. Technology cannot win a hand to hand bloody fight. I don’t see a foreign invasion any time soon but I do see possible wars that we cannot win using technology alone. Even fighting ragheads with rusty weapons we took a beating but had we waged war and not a civil action we would not have.
