A Northern California tree trimmer has been decapitated after an industrial wood chipper apparently sucked up a rope tangled around his neck.

Is there really, in any set of circumstances, a time when wrapping ANYTHING around you neck is considered wise thing to do?
I clicked on the thread because I recently hired a self-employed tree trimmer to clear my property of fallen & wind damaged trees - from around power lines. After observing how skilled and fearless he performed heart-stopping maneuvers and risky tasks - (as his employee assisted in less difficult work)- he gained my full appreciation for his risky occupation.
He earned his fee and my respect.
If he had suffered such a horrid death - I would be praying for his wife and children - not making fun of his demise. But that’s just me.

I don’t hire contractors without the proper licenses and insurance & make sure it’s part of the contract for service.
Licensed plumbers, electricians, roofers are all required to carry their own insurance for themselves and their employees.
No it is not just you. There are lots of people like you that get their panties in a wad when others chortle over darvin award winners. People react to these things differently. Such is life.

Guy here on Long Island was feeding tree limbs into a chipper when one of the pieces snagged his sleeve as the chipper grabbed it. The implacable chipper ripped his arm off at the shoulder.

Thanks for your reply. The poor worker who died may not have been as experienced or skilled as your worker, but there is no excuse for making fun of those who have suffered tragedy. It is, quite simply, boorish behavior.
You won't be so arrogant when one day it will be you (for we are all fallible and make mistakes). Then you will see what it is like when "others chortle over" and mock you.
In my youth I worked in a nursing home populated by people who pretty much had lived self-sufficient lives. For their entire lives they had been "in control". They might not have made any big mistakes like our deceased laborer.
And now, at the end, they had lost control of their bodily functions, and were soiling their beds, or worse, were unable to prevent themselves from defecating in the halls. There were lots of guffaws on the part of the staff when that happened. The poor confused individuals were mocked to their faces.
You may be self-assured now, but in your declining years it just might be you who is "getting your panties in a wad" as you find yourself on the other end of the malicious taunts that you make light of now.
