Now you’re happy that he’s a comfortable second behind Romney? I just don’t get that!

You sound like an emotional liberal. Knock that off and engage your analyzer.

Given what's happened over the last three weeks, Newt should be all but out of the race, but he's not. He's actually polling close behind Romney, which for most thinking people, is a GOOD thing.

It means he's got honest support, which isn't going to erode away because he lost a couple of inconsequential races to Romney, or got slammed with millions of dollars worth of negative campaign ads.

In case you hadn't noticed, his poll numbers are IMPROVING.

On the other hand, your candidate's numbers are reverting to trend, which shows that he doesn't have a solid, un-erodable base of support. Have you not noticed that he's now in 4th place behind Ron Paul?

Conservatives, by and large, are supporting Santorum.

What? Santorum is running a full 10 points behind Newt. Did you get that? A full 10 points. And you think that Newt should drop out and endorse Santorum? Why? To make you happy?

LOL. You're not rational.

Forgive me, I backed Cain. I’m used to seeing 20+ point leads in South Carolina.

“Given what’s happened over the last three weeks, Newt should be all but out of the race”

He was the frontrunner before. I remember that very well because everyone was saying that Newt was the front runner and that we needed to get behind him because only he could win.

He is, basically out of the race now. South Carolina is his last stand. Win or go home, same as with Thompson. If he does as well as Thompson does, then he’ll be out and we can get behind Santorum.

“He’s actually polling close behind Romney, which for most thinking people, is a GOOD thing.”

Uh, no. He’s supposed to be beating Romney, not behind. He needs to win here. Romney is pushing to get rid of Newt from the race.

“It means he’s got honest support, which isn’t going to erode away”

Like it did in December and earlier this month? He was at 36 percent nationally at one point. Now he can’t muster 25 percent in South Carolina? Where did all that solid support go? 36 nationally translates to Romney style wins in SC as Romney did in NH.

“he lost a couple of inconsequential races to Romney”

Um, you mean the fact that he finished 4th in Iowa and 5th in New Hampshire? ‘Inconsequential races’. Wow.

“his poll numbers are IMPROVING.”

Uh, no they aren’t. He’s been at 24 percent with Romney consistantly 5+ points ahead of him.

“your candidate’s numbers are reverting”

Hrm? Santorum was at 2 percent in South Carolina. He’s at 15 now. That’s a surge. Sure, it’s not 24, but it’s not 36 either.

“Have you not noticed that he’s now in 4th place behind Ron Paul?”

Yeah, and he’s catching up to Newt. This is bad news. Newt can’t win with Romney at 30 and Paul at 20.

“What?”

Yes, that’s the truth. Santorum is polling 2x what Newt is among self-described conservatives. Newt’s support comes primarily from Independents and moderates. Check out the exit polls in Iowa and NH.

Hey, I was surprised as well, but that data is why I’m backing Santorum.

“And you think that Newt should drop out and endorse Santorum?”

Yes sir.

“Why?”

Because the head to head polls show Santorum dominating Romney, while Romney beats Gingrich. Real simple. Gingrich can’t beat Romney because Gingrich is supported by moderates, not conservatives.
