Former Perry S.C. Supporter Switches Endorsement to Santorum (South Carolina GOP leader)
American Spectator ^ | 1.14.12 | ROBERT STACY MCCAIN

South Carolina GOP leader Patrick Haddon, who formerly supported Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the 2012 presidential primary, yesterday announced his endorsement of Rick Santorum.

"After looking at all the candidates and their political careers, and looking for a true conservative that has been fighting for real Republican causes, there is only one candidate that has been a consistent conservative fighting [for] family values and supporting pro-life issues," said Haddon, former chairman of the Greenville County GOP. "That is why Shelly and I are proud to endorse Senator Rick Santorum for President of the United States."

Haddon's endorsement of Santorum was at least the second defection from Perry's South Carolina campaign this week. Spartanburg businessman Barry Wynn switched his endorsement to Mitt Romney, after denouncing Perry's "destructive" attacks on Romney's business record at Bain Capital.

Nice to see people in SC coming to their senses. At worst, we still need an ADULT to battle President Obama.

Ohh man, I still remember the vapid stuff Bachmann and Santorum were spewing to attack Cain, Perry, Newt, or any candidate who happened to be on the top of the polls.

Exactly by what standard are conservatives seeing Santorum as the uber conservative? All he has is his pro-life credentials. Everything else is boring, tepid, noncommittal. At least Newt and Perry are offering a flat tax and other major reforms. Santorum can’t even support right-to-work laws.

Santorum is a far better choice. At least he can get votes.

I think Perry is 100% conservative and is equal to any in that respect. That said, he is running a terrible campaign and I don’t know who to blame. It could possibly be those who are baling on him who are to blame.

Perry is a great governor and a fine gentleman but something is not right. In a couple of the debates he looked as if someone had secretly drugged him as he looked sleepy and tired. That is not the normal Rick Perry. He is a fine public speaker yet he performed poorly in those debates. All of that is peculiar to me.

“At least he can get the votes”.

But what are y’all voting for, exactly? So he’s Catholic and pro-life? That’s all I ever hear about.

Social conservatives moving to big spending, big government candidates, very sad.

JANUARY 13 Nine European Nations Downgraded by S&P:
JANUARY 11 Greece so poor families are abandoning their children
JANUARY 12 - Greece's unemployment rate jumped to 18.2%

here in the USA 15.232 trillion and counting
43 cents of every dollar spent is debt

Just a little reminder debt(spending) kills nations

Perry had serious back problems and was most likely under some kind of medication. Horrible luck for Perry.

Gov. Perry was fatigued in those early debates. He was recovering from back surgery, and at the end of a long day of campaigning he attended the debates. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, he was probably on painkillers at that time, too.

“Exactly by what standard are conservatives seeing Santorum as the uber conservative? All he has is his pro-life credentials.”

Um, that’s only the most important part.

As for his fiscal conservativism, his plan is actually better than Paul Ryan. He’s promised cutting to 2008 levels immediately plus another 5 trillion in cuts over 5 years.

Good enough for me. Solves the immediate fiscal problem, and the long term fiscal problem. That’s what we want, right? A plan to get spending under control.

Why would you think that? He does just fine against Newt and blows Romney away in the head to head.

Patrick Haddon is an idiot. Only Gingrich can defeat King Obama.

Good points, but Gingrich and Perry have really stepped in it with their attacks on capitalism. It looks like we are stuck with Santorum by default. At least we know he is pro-life. However, I don't know how he gains the perception of being an alpha male by wearing those sweaters.

How is Santorum a big spender? He’s pledged to cut spending immediately to 2008 levels and another 5 trilliion in 5 years.

That solves both the immediate problems and the long term problems.

Okay, not only does he have spending problems in his record, I honestly don’t see a difference in any of their plans to cut spending. That’s pretty much a given. How does Santorum stand out over Newt or Perry? And when his “social” stuff is the “most important”, why is it more important than the same exact stance held by Newt and Perry, who also have pro-life credentials that are, perhaps, even stronger than Santorums? I am not seeing an objective analysis of Santorum’s actual record here or his actual platform as compared to the others. It’s hope and change all over again.

Dunno why people don’t like those sweaters? I’d rather look at what a candidate believes rather than what he chooses to wear.
