I think anything is possible with a Conservative “independent” candidate entering the debate after the nominees are solidified. It could be a Republican yet to be named that doesn’t go the nominee track.

What are the advantages?
- No “shark chumming” during the lengthy debate process.
- less money spent trying to get nominated.

I’m for whomever can bet Obama. Right now, no one stands out or inspires.

As for how they could beat Obama? During the election process, point out all the things he has done that shows his lack of executive and capitalism experiences. No matter what, it is still all about jobs right now. You can’t pin the total debt on Obama, but you can point out things that he is trying to change that are fundamental to being an American. Mark Levin’s new book is a good template to use in attack ads against Obama.

I know Romney’s position on abortion, mormonism, and mass. healthcare has made him a no-go candidate among certain conservatives. He could ask for forgiveness on these issues but it won’t matter. In their opinion, he has blood on his hands.

With that said, here at the general issues I see:

Family - Romney, Santorum
Executive experience - Romney
Foreign policy - well, anyone can spout anything during an election, but none of them have any real experience, other than personal traveling.
Military - None really, except for Ron Paul.

Newt is able to crystallize an argument greater than any conservative has been able to in a long time. But, he ain’t going to be elected in a general election. He’s good to have on the presidential debate podium because it makes the other candidates step up their game. A very unique person whose intellectualism surpasses his electability.
