yup - as a GI in Germany I got a bottle over the head.
bled like a stuck pig. took 4 stitches. never did find the sob who threw it.

I’m now in Germany as a civie with the US Army. Occassionally a GI comes to our clinic having been in a bar fight. Seems the trend here is to indescriminately throw a bottle and run. I’ve had several troops with the injuries you described. In every single case...more than 4 stitches.
