What you don't know is, the MSM kept the later facts about the case, very quiet. In which all charges were dropped and Newt was cleared of them. They were proven false. There also, was no fine in the matter either.

Rather than a SOuth Carolina Primary LIVE THREAD, it appears this has morphed into a “Let me smack you with MY “bible belt” thread.
Makes me no nevermind, but the Mods may want to change the title for the “unsuspecting” LOL! ;-)

Thank you tcrlaf.

Came to FR to see what freepers from SC were reporting from the ground and got sermon(S) instead. Once is enough. Fr has a religious segment where religion is discussed. Please remove discussion on religion there.

Moderator could we start a new thread for the discussion of what is happening in SC primary?

If I’m married when I enter the Church, I stay married when I enter the Church.

The Church recognizes the validity of marriages outside the Catholic church. Look at Scott and Kimberley Hahn. They did not get ‘remarried’, when they became Catholic, they remained married.

I know Newt received an annulment for Marianne - I had thought just like you did that both had been annuled, but I only saw the one.

So again, if you can show me where Jackie’s marriage was also annuled, I’d be very grateful.

“15 years ago today Newt was the 1st Speaker in history reprimanded for ethics violations. How will Newt answer this? It’s worrisome.”

You should try reading - Newt was cleared of all charges. He did pay $300,000 to pay for the expenses of that investigion. See, simple answer if you read.

And as a direct result of all that, the ethics rules were tightened up by Congress so frivolous charges couldn't so easily be made for the purpose of political harassment.

“Heavy turnout means the tea party is coming out.”

Hi Bray!

Hope you’re surviving the weather! I was finally able to get out (driving) this a.m. I don’t know how many tea party folks vote via absentee in SC, but I heard on the radio a little while ago that they’ve received 28,000 absentee ballots in SC - 8K more than in 2008 primaries. Hope they voted and sent their ballots in after the debate on Monday (or Thursday)!

Best,
SC

Newt converted after his first marriage - the first marriage would not have been a valid sacramental marriage.

Also upon conversion a person is required to go confession before receiving communion. Confession with true repentance results in absolution - the soul is free of previous sins committed.

I’m not asking for a perfect marriage - far from it. I am saying that if you do marry, that you work through the rough patches.

It is hard, really hard. Believe me, I understand some of it, even if I don’t understand all of it. And there’s a lot that is a total mystery to me.

Well said and I agree!!!

"I like Dennis - he helps me focus on what is important in my life - my family, love, happiness, and faith."

I do too. He's a very wise man. He never argues with anyone, but instead merely seeks CLARITY.

Newt was found innocent of all trumped up charges (Think what Sarah has recently gone through, it’s a repeat)

It is my understanding the money he paid was voluntary in order to speed up the process and clear his name. Have not seen documentation of this area but have read proof of the innocence.

I think it was a big set up by the media, Romney and Santorum was told about the big push against Newt Gingrich in the debate.
Only problem for them it backfired. Newt got the upper hand from the start. Romney saw what happened (the people standing O) and backed away, partly, from the big attack but Santorum being young and inexperienced didn’t see what happened and continued to dig a whole for himself.

Now the media are playing defense and looking even more like the Dimwitts Romwitts that they are.

There are many TV personalities who have the same annoying vocal characteristics. I have time to look them up to see why?
You’re so out of sorts you must be a Santorum supporter.

Well, all I can see is the annulment for Marianne. I do not see an annulment for Jackie.

The annulment to Marianne was granted for prior bond - hers, not his. This is my concern, has been my concern for months. Like you I assumed precisely this, when asked to show whether or not this was in fact true- I couldn’t find any evidence for it.

That’s my pickle.

....“Gingrich sought annulments from his wives.”

“Did he get both? That’s the question.”

As Catholics, we would have to assume so. The Catholic Diocese is one of the most conservative in leadership and has been for some time.

Gingrich converted after his marriage to Calista, sought such and likeley attained them due to the special circumstances of non-cooperation from his former wife.

The fact that he attends Mass, receives Holy Communion and is not deterred by his Priest, speaks to that issue.
