Can someone clarify this for me?

From what I understand JoePA received secondhand information about Sandusky and that he brought this information to the proper university authority. He was not a witness himself was he?

If this is true, why has he been so demonized?

You are correct - Paterno's sin was in not following up his report to campus police and his boss.

Call it pedophile enabling or the inattentiveness of a football obsessed old man, thats what we know he was guilty of.

That is what we know to be true. Paterno was not a witness and was never accused of being a witness. He has never been accused of knowing anything prior to the 2002 incident, when he was notified by a graduate assistant. Paterno took this hearsay to his boss and the University police commissioner. Note that the accused was not an employee at that time and had not been for several years, so Paterno had no authority over him.

I personally have yet to figure out why he has been so demonized. The only explanation I have is that the media simply likes to take people down.

Because he was not just the coach.

Paterno was on the governing board of The Second Mile, which is the charity from.which the children were obtained. When it came about that the campus police did not perform an investigation into the incidents being reported ... He should either have gone to the city police or resigned from the board. Most freepers are focusing solely on the incident witnessed by the assistant coach. That doesn't fly, there was the janitor reported incident as well.

There is zero plausible deniability for Joe.
A lot of the football pagans do not require plausability.
