Sen. Brown kicks off re-election campaign

BOSTON -- Less than 24 hours after launching his re-election bid, U.S. Sen. Scott Brown came to Lowell Friday and discussed his Democratic opponent's foreign-policy credentials, the presidential race, and even his personal finances.

During an hourlong editorial board meeting at The Sun of Lowell, Brown also expressed frustration with Washington gridlock. He criticized partisan bickering for stalling action on issues such as reducing the national debt and fixing the economy.

"There are times when I'm going to be with my party," said Brown. "I'm a Republican, obviously. But there are times when our party down there, especially, is acting irresponsibly and not allowing things to move forward."

The freshman senator's visit came just hours before a meeting between top-level staffers for Brown and chief Democratic rival Elizabeth Warren ended without a deal to curb political attack ads by outside groups.

Both sides went into the closed-door meeting saying they wanted to come up with a proposal to block ads by third-party organizations. The meeting ended without an agreement, and with each campaign pointing a finger at their rival candidate.

Brown has suggested that each candidate donate half the cost of any third-party ad -- whether on television, cable, broadcast or online -- to a charity of their choice if that ad either supports their candidacy by name or attacks their opponent, also by name.

Immediately after the meeting, Warren's campaign issued a statement saying Brown's proposal "still includes loopholes that Karl Rove could drive a tank through," referring to the Republican political operative. Those "loopholes" include the need to come up with a better way to track online advertising spending in addition to the purchasing of ad time on radio and television stations.

Silencing independent thought (that has no centralized control)? How...conservative.

Frankly, I could understand a third party PAC running ads against the both of them.

Brown is just like McCain; he stabs you in the back by continually reaching across the aisle to the Socialists, then pretends he’s a staunch conservative at election time.

Hey Brown...SCREW YOU! Go and beg for cash from the Moderates and Liberals you love so much! RINO’s are such douche bags.

In case anyone’s interested, here’s how Brown’s Senate votes have broken down:

“will never donate for him again.”

And he slams Warren for accepting out-of-state donations.

OTOH, do we want Warren, the left-of-Ted Kennedy candidate in there? At least with Brown we get 25%, with Warren we get 0%. There are no other choices, unless Coakley runs against Warren in a primary.

“At least with Brown we get 25%, with Warren we get 0%. There are no other choices...”

A voice of reason.

I’m no Scott Brown fan either. I never expected him to vote like Jim DeMint or Tom Coburn - but he’s has voted further to the Left than I thought he would.

The Dems look at this Senate seat as theirs. They feel they are entitled to it. I’d like to pop that illusion.

“A voice of reason.”

A voice of disgust with years and years of “vote GOP, it’s less progressive than the DNC”.

Scott: You were able to win last time with the money and commitment of conservatives that actually believed what you said. How you going to win Act II with neither?

I started getting email money requests from Scott at least 8 weeks ago.

I’ve had to block THREE different email addresses from his “campaign”. I think Scott is gonna figure out REAL FAST how that RINO crap “pays off”.
