Sorry but...Alinsky was about organizing ordinary people so that the people doing the organizing could get wealth and power without doing anything to earn it.
Saul Alinsky was a community organizer in the same sense as Lenin, Trotsky, Hitler & Obama--a totalitarian minded demagogue, undermining the actual values of a community, to push an unnatural & monolithic agenda.

Alinsky 'biographer' Sanford D. Horwitt evidently sees his mission as sanitizing Alinsky for his protection (yes, the toilet allusion is intentional) rather than using critical thinking and truth-telling to guide his work. If Alinsky was a champion of "ordinary people", then I am the Queen of France.
I met Alinsky briefly in the early '70s when he was invited to speak at my (small, private) high school. I was not politically sophisticated enough to fully understand his agenda when I was at that young age, but in retrospect the destructive seeds that my teachers were attempting to plant by not only inviting him but also by effectively lionizing him is unmistakably clear.
It's one thing to invite speakers with a range of viewpoints to spark discussion and analysis, but quite a different thing altogether to push his viewpoint and goals as something to admire and emulate (which was clearly the reason that he was paraded before us)...
Wasn’t quite ready to jump on the Newt bandwagon yet, but him invoking the name of Saul Alinsky when describing the horrors of the Obama Whitehouse got me perking my ears. For a moment he was sounding like he was giving a Glenn Beck commentary.
As far as the practice of using the tools and tactics and treachery of leftist parasites and their enablers to undermine and sabotage the progressive-utopian wet dream in any and every way imaginable, I'm all for it.

The author is incorrect, Saul Alinsky was not about organizing the ordinary people to give them a seat at the table. Saul Alinsky was about using groups of people to empower the leftist elites and make sure that the average voter and tax payer DOES NOT GET A SEAT AT THE NEGOTIATING TABLE.
All you have to do is look at the NEA, the National Education Association, which, back in Philadelphia in 1970, hired Saul Alinsky to do its organizing for them.
Alinsky was a genius, and his Rules for Radicals has brought us to the current precipice, which shows that it works.
His power will diminish however, once Newt makes him a household name, which he is evidently intent on doing.
