Debate Winner: Mitch Daniels JAN 23, 2012

BY WILLIAM KRISTOL

I’ve got to think Monday night’s debate further swelled the groundswell of support for Mitch Daniels. The liveliest part of the debate was at the beginning, when Mitt went after Newt—and Republicans all over America watched with fascinated horror at the thought that these are the two GOP frontrunners.

The only spectacle in American politics more off-putting than Newt Gingrich in self-righteous defense mode is Mitt Romney in self-righteous attack mode. I thought Mitt’s attacks were somewhat more dishonest than Newt’s defenses were disingenuous, but it was good to move on to the rest of the debate, where little further damage was done.

"Newt may not be pretty"

Winston Churchill wasn't pretty, either.

“More importantly when is Kristol going to have his Inappropriate Smiling Syndrome problem corrected?”

I think they are waiting for a personality donor so they can do the transplant.

I agree with Kristol. We are 8-months into this process and it was disheartening to watch those two clowns toss insults at each other for the first 20-minutes of the debate.

I really would like a different choice. I don’t care if it is Daniels, Rubio, Ryan, etc. I just want an adult to step up. Heck, even senor Rick Perry is looking much better at the moment.

Isn't RINO Mitch too busy trying to increase taxes via the Marketplace Fairness Act to run?

Via HotAir on 1/21/2012:

"Indiana government officials and the nation’s largest online retailer have reached an agreement to begin collecting Indiana sales tax on Internet purchases.

Indiana will become the fourth state to reach such an agreement with Amazon.com, but Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) said he wants federal legislation to address the online sales tax issue.

“The only complete answer to this problem is a federal solution that treats all retailers and all states the same,” said Daniels in a statement.

Kristol makes Ann Coulter’s rant seem sane
____________________________________________________________

Ummmmm...... I don’t think so. Ann Coulter was on Bill O’Reilly tonight where she reemphasized that she is an enthusiastic “Romney supporter”. First she pushed the RINO from NJ, Chris Christie. When he decided not to run and endorsed Romney, she got on board. I remember when she was a Conservative; the RINO-b**ch.

yes! Well, it sounds like Newt did well tonight?? I was not able to hear it.

Not really, more like a tie. Romney just threw accusation after accusation at Newt at the beginning who could not get an answer out before Mitt threw another, and then was cut off by Williams going to a commercial. Toward the end he did better when given time to answer, especially the last question as to how difficult it will be to turn the country around from where we are now headed. Sobering.

Interesting that the NBC spin team agreed that Newt sounded and acted more presidential than Romney, mainly because he held back and did not anger or was bombastic. Overall a yawner of a debate.

“It’s one thing when part of the audience boos or doesn’t applaud you. That could happen to anyone expressing a strong opinion. But you’re in deep doo-doo when they start laughing at you.”

Your post is a great observation! I hope many, many others caught that exchange as well. ALSO interesting (and I hope Newt uses it next time) is the large investments Mitt’s made in Fannie and Freddie and his profits from them!

One thing you — and everyone who watched the debate — missed was any mention by Brian Williams of Barak Obama. You might not think it possible, but tonight NBC held a two-hour presidential debate in which not one single question ever made reference to the incumbent president.

For people who knew what the “insults” meant— since they were not insults, they were attempts to establish facts in a debate— not the same thing. No ad hominem occurred. And romney came off looking like the tool of a once good venture firm that charges big bucks to say the obvious. Bain advised obama on obamacare— now there’s a fact worth knowing.

Kristol has no idea what he is talking about. Editor of a truly nothing circulation beltway bandit publication of govt. sponge companies (reminds me of the era of shabby Lincoln had to deal with of govt. grafters). Kristol the son of a communist “convert”. No clue, McCain man. Facts stick around, and pointing them out for real fact checkers is not being insulting, it is pointing out what obama will do to romney (and newt too). Somewhere else on FR there is a pdf link to mcains oppo research on romney. Quite something. McCain is a snake for obama- a sad hostage of marxists.

They WORK for obama— standard operating procedure. The oh so gay brian williams has such discretion for his master.
Fortunately Newt DID bring up obama and has, a lot. Romney notably can’t bring himself to call obama what the hell he is.

Yes, they’re trying now to cram MD down our throats alright - guess you heard who’s giving the Republican response tomorrow night to the SOTU address, right?

Mitch Daniels.

(Side note: Doug Lamborn, Colorado R. congressman was on Greta, saying he’s skipping BHO’s BS speech in protest. Good man!)

As soon as Mittens does.

I think it is stunning, an entire two-hour presidential debate with no question about the incumbent. The candidates, or someone with a soapbox, should call out NBC on this.

“Isn’t he the one whose pants wearing wife said no way to his running?”

Plus, he’s really, really short and losing his hair. The visual of him next to BHO on the same stage is a joke. (Sorry, but too many voters are shallow :-)

I’m not defending Romney. He’s completely melting down under pressure the past week, which is probably good in the long run.

But I’m not going to toss 3rd grade insults at Bill Kristol for calling it like it was tonight. Newt is a clown as well. Neither guy is looking remotely presidential at the moment.

I started on this site 15-years ago, because it was the only place that was holding Clinton accountable for the train wreck of a moral character he was. I’m just not sure I’m ready to toss all those beliefs down the drain and be excited to vote for Newt.

Newt’s whoring himself out to Fannie/Freddie, Pelosi and his mistress of the month isn’t exactly the type of image I want to have to talk up to my kids next fall during the Presidential race.

We have better options. I’d like to see one of them step up.

I think Newt looks more presidential than Mittens when you see them (and listen to them) side by side in debate. He has a certain stature, demeanor and commanding presence. Mittens is just a wimp, an empty suit - and we’ve already got one of those in our White House now.
