Jay Leno thought he was poking gentle fun at the lifestyles of rich and famous Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney in particular.
But last Thursday when Lenos slide show came to a location cited as Mitt Romneys summer home in reality an image of the Sikh holy shrine Golden Temple in Amritsar, India it sparked a diplomatic incident. And now, a lawsuit charging Leno and NBC with libel.
(Excerpt) Read more at deadline.com ...
The Romneys made $21 million/year, while the Clintons made $76 million/year and Leno himself made $29 million/year.
Yet Leno jokes about Romney's wealth. How? He only has his position and wealth because he dutifully licks the @$$es of the Liberal Establishment Media and mindlessly targets and attacks their enemies and protects their friends - as programmed. The fact that his audience swallows the same propaganda does not disprove the plea for Leno but merely proves that they too have been programmed into a state of mindlessness.
With all due respect, the Sikhs need to lighten up.
It was satire. Satire is protected as a form of free speech.
The lawsuit won’t go anywhere. Romney just makes himself look like a dofus bringing a lawsuit over this to begin with.
Exactly.
If Mitt can’t put up with gentle humour, and I consider that pretty tame even if the joke was about me, how’s he going to act if he becomes president?
Does he really expect to be ablt to drop the Secret Service upon anybody who makes light of him?
It’s a short article. Romney did not file the suit.
ANd of cause you didn't read my comment. If you had you what have realized that it is Leno that should "look like a dofus" for joking about Romney's wealth when he is WEALTHIER.
‘The thousand dollar better and the $380,000 no big deal’ Romney didn’t bring the charges. He’s too busy scamming Americans for votes.
If Dr. Randeep Dhillon is so opposed to freedom of speech and so offended by a harmless joke, that clearly did not intend to offend anyone, and IMHO, couldn’t possibly offend any sane person, he should go back to India (though I don’t think they will like him much there, either.)
Did you read the article? The article states that: Dr. Randeep Dhillon of Bakersfield filed the suit in Los Angeles Superior Court. On behalf of himself and temple.
“Its a short article. Romney did not file the suit.”
Oh, golly-—now somone has “offended” another religious cult. Someone MUST be MADE to pay.
This is no big deal for Mitt, now he’ll only have to melt down a few corners from his solid-gold house to pay for the lawyers.
It’s a good thing he didn’t show a photo of a Muslim shrine. A lawsuit would have been the least of his worries.
Who is it that has the tagline stating, "Proudly posting for years without reading the excerpt or the article"? That yours Jonty or Brookhaven?
Just teasin' ya a little.....
The real joke is that Leno makes more money than Romney so it's stupid to go there.
It was the Sikhs that filed the lawsuit, not Romney... read the article...
Clearly it's not JUST the Sikhs who need to lighten up.
the suit charges that the broadcast was libelous on its face and exposed Sikhs and their religion to hatred, contempt and ridicule because it portrayed the holiest place in the Sikh religion as a vacation resort owned by a non-Sikh
Stop the religious persicution,man! /s
The conclusion that Romney HOPED we’d draw is: “See, I’m not afraid to take on the media either! I can fight them like Newt, too.” — FAIL
What makes this even more idiotic is that Leno (or more accurately his staff member who chose the photo) was actually paying the temple a compliment by using it in the Mitt joke. I’m sure they tried to find the most beautiful structure they could find to be Mitt’s “vacation home”.
The plaintiffs do not belong in America if they despise free speech so much and get offended over an utterly inoffensive joke.
I am also disgusted that the India government filed a formal complaint with the State Department over this. A couple of random morons filing a frivolous lawsuit is one thing, but the government of the 2nd most populus nation in the world trying to stifle free speech in America is disturbing.
