Don't you mean Trent Lott, rather than Phil Gramm

Everything that I posted is from my memory of what was posted on this forum and as you know this forum covered the Clintons like no other.

Lott was leader of his caucas but Gramm was the senator who was appointed to work out the rules of the trial. Hyde and all those on the impeachment committee that tried the case in the Senate felt that it was Gramm who sold them out by limiting the rules of the trial. They were prepared to try Clinton under a different set of rules and learned late in the process that Gramm had been the one from the Republican Senate who agreed to limiting the rules.

Apparently, I was unfamiliar with Gramm's role.

Gramm started out political life as a democrat congressman-- fact. He then switched parties and defeated Ron Paul and others to win the primary then won over democrat to congress. That's who his pals are in TX and who he is-- texas dem machine.

To top all that off, despite his Gramm-Latta reforms and economic knowledge-- he chaired McCain's presidential campaign.... and then QUIT in July 2008.. just like that he could see obama had McCains number. Always giving up in the fight, and in the impeachment-- hindered the impeachment trial bigtime.
