Charges force Mirkarimi to turn over firearms (SF Sheriff)
San Francisco Examiner ^ | 01/24/12 11:07 PM | Joshua Sabatini

Even though he’s now sheriff, it may surprise some that Ross Mirkarimi owns several guns.

As a longtime member of the progressive bloc on the Board of Supervisors, Mirkarimi was a vocal advocate of gun control.

But after being arrested on three misdemeanor charges including domestic violence battery, Mirkarimi was forced to turn over all his guns to authorities. Court records show Mirkarimi surrendered three handguns: A Sig Sauer P229, a Beretta 92G, and a Smith & Wesson Model 19 .357-caliber magnum revolver.

Fairly decent taste in handguns, I’d have to say.

While I agree w/the apparent “poetic justice:” odds are this guy has at least one untraceable weapon stashed somewhere; these types always consider themselves above the law.

Untraceable weapon stash? I thought only right wing extremist types did stuff like that.

I used to have an untraceable weapons stash but I lost it in a tragic boating accident.

Some LEO’s have been known to do this; particularly in large cities for obvious reasons. Pls don't take that as a condemnation of LEO’s in general; most of the ones I have known or met were (and are) highly professional, courteous and fair ...but, then, I live in Central VA.

That happens a lot; doesn’t it ...must be an occupational hazard of seafaring FReepers. Thank God you were wearing your PFD! ...you really must be more careful out on the water! (sly smile)

You were on that boat too? Imagine the coincidence.

A hypocritical liberal? No way!

Domestic violence charges? I hope the accusing domestic partner is also a hypocritical liberal, just to add the extra bit of polish to the irony.

To be fair to LEO's, Mirkarimi is not, and has never been one. He is a rabid Marxist political hack who was a Green (read "Communist") party member until he knew he would never gain higher office as a Green, so he switched to Rat.

He has never served as a LEO or had any LEO training whatsoever, he is a lawyer and a lousy one at that, serving in the most corrupt (San Francisco) DA's office as an undrproductive ADA.

He is nearly universally despised by all the lower rank cops and deputies in SF.

He ran for Sheriff and was elected by a strictly Marxist, only in San Francisco, ranked choice voting system that threw out the two candidates (and votes for them) that both had a plurality of votes far above Mirkarimi.

Mirkarimi is simply a standard leftist, Marxist bully, he's tough with the girls if they're under 12, and if any FReeper looked at him sideways, he'd soil his trousers on the spot, red underwear or not.

If you will accept a Venezuelan Communist, soap opera actress/bimbo who is a favorite of Hugo Chavez, then you get your wish.

Just to make your day even better, the snitch was an ultra feminazi comic book author, specializing in feminine superheroes.

I swear!

Of the estimated 200M private firearms in the U.S. (not to mention 11 billion rounds of private ammo), I’ve heard that at least 60% are not registered anywhere. Inherited, bought before 1970, brought in from another country, cap and ball, muskets, etc.

A "watermellon environmentalist" ...so, he is a Sheriff; but, not an LEO. Do I have that correct? I have always assumed Sheriff's in VA were LEO’s. Their deputies are sworn officers of the court; carry sidearms, serve warrants, transport prisoners and provide general law enforcement in most counties; although, some independent cities have both police officers and sheriffs deputies. Sheriffs are elected in VA; however, the deputies are not; so, maybe my layman's assumption about Sheriff's in VA has been incorrect.

Funny Sheriff story: In 1964, when I was 16, I had the Sheriff of James City County (just outside Williamsburg, VA) pull me over for speeding (5 miles over). He was driving an old beat up Volkswagen bus w/blue lights mounted down low where the were impossible to see in my rear view mirror by the time I noticed him ...no siren; so, while he had been honking his horn at me for over a mile; I honestly had no idea who he was; other than he appeared PO’ed and I was reluctant to stop as I was in the right lane and he had a passing lane; plus it was a relatively rural area. He finally pulled along side me and motioned me over. Once I pulled over he came up, pulled out his ID and very angrily announced who he was ...fortunately I kept my cool and politely explained I lived at the Naval Weapons Station at Yorktown; and I had no idea who he was and had never seen his private vehicle; nor had I ever met him before. After that, he slowly cooled down and let me go w/o a ticket. I kept a sharp eye out for that damned VW bus after that!

Oh, wow. Thank you for the inside story!

Wouldn’t surprise me if she made up the DV charge in the first place. Only two people know for sure!

That is a downright humorous story - a sheriff relegated to a VW bus, that being his personal vehicle.

Good thing you kept your cool. At 16 I was driving a ‘73 Gremlin, and still woulda been snickering at that dude.
