That's a lot of web page hits. I have to wonder why that is... or perhaps not.
That is, in no small measure, due to the sneaky feature he has programmed into his site that auto refreshes the screen every few minutes. It's a hit multiplier designed to enhance his ad revenue.

Apparently he has hit on an even more effective hit multiplier - alternately removing and restoring his “Free Republic” link.
That is an HTML feature (nothing sneaky about it, 1 liner in a web page) that does not contribute to his IP address based hit count. When your computer/browser requests his web page (HTTP) it sends it's IP as a return address. That's how a web site knows approximately how many people are accessing it. Now maybe you have accessed it with you phone and your laptop in which case you maybe over counted. Or perhaps you logged off your ISP and then logged back in a got a assigned a new IP. But otherwise, it a pretty good approximation.
