Newt: “I have no idea what motivates Ann Coulter”
The Right Scoop ^ | January 27th, 2012 | Dan Cleary

Posted on 01/28/2012 9:06:07 AM PST by Hotlanta Mike

This is Newt Gingrich on a phone interview with Fox News, discussing the recent attacks on him by Ann Coulter among other prominent conservatives. Newt says he’s not sure what motivates Coulter’s attacks on him (other than the fact that she’s obviously in Romney’s corner), and calls her part of the “old order”, resistant to bold change in Washington.

Make of that what you will.

I know, but there people who are upset. She’s trying to get attention. That’s why she’s doing it.

Disagree with her and all bets are off. Once she has no use for your, you do not exist. If you do not mindlessly agree with her, you are the ignorant one.

Same could be said for Glenn Beck as of late.

Maybe Ann thinks Mitt is a better nominee. She makes her case every week in her column.

I am sick of the motivations of everyone who doesn’t agree with “us” being suspect.

The demonization of everyone with a different point of view is harmful to the cause of defeating Hussein. Disagreement, yes. Demonization, no.

There’s a big difference between “disagreement”, and slobbering out lies like a deranged fiend in front of millions of viewers.

There’s also a big difference between “recovering” and “recovered”.

True story-—I had a dream about Ann Coulter last night. She had me backed into a corner, yelling about Newt. I pushed her away and told her to get out of Mitt Romney’s butt, whereupon she gave some kind of alien screech and scuttled up the wall and onto the ceiling, like a spider, LOL.

Hey! I had that very same dream last night. And her eyes, the way they open and close from the sides? Those are gills, J.

She also seems to suffer from glottal fry - that creaky voice thing that effects mostly young American girls. Another way to hang on to her youth, lol!

No idea what is motivating Ms. Coulter, but her defense of Mitt Romney and her aggressive assault on Gingrich have left me cold. I don’t read her anymore. And after her last appearance on Fox’s Bill O’Reilly, I won’t be watching her on television any longer.

PS: By the way, regarding her looks and years. Come on you guys. Yes, she’s an older female. So what, we all age. I sure have and it sucks.

Glad to know a gorgeous young generation is coming up!

Ann and Laura (who still looks pretty) were lovely when they first came on the scene. But Ann just stopped growing and changing it seems. She lost me during the Harriet Miers debate when she went on Sean Hannity and carried on a mean caper about her. Totally out of contol.

Ann Coulter is so 2000ish. We’ve moved beyond her. It’s obvious she’s got a thing for Northeastern liberal Republicans. I’m not sure what motivates her. It could be a change in hormones, truly. I know of a couple of national conservatives that have gone more liberalish as time has gone on.

I don’t fault Coulter for her associations, but they don’t lend credibility to her self-described conservative positions. She too has “sat on the couch” with a few unfriendlies.

She’s just proving that all of us, Ann included, badly need clothes to hide those parts of ourselves that become less and less attractive as we age. A perfect example is, IIRC, “Jackass 2” that descended into total repulsiveness by doing full frontal nudity with male and female septuagenarians.

I think you need to lay off the news for a day or two.

Community organizer types are reporting the news these days, both left and right sides. Laying off the news is something that brings down our blood pressure.

First, she's convinced that Newt can't win.

Second, she supported Romney as more conservative than McCain last time, and whether she's right or wrong about Romney, there's consistency there.

Third, Texans, Southerners, evangelicals tend to get a pass if they aren't ideologically 100%. Certainly Bush did. Ann, who helped write the pass for Bush may wonder why people from her part of the country like Romney and Christie don't get a similar pass. She's trying to write out such a pass. This angers people who aren't from Ann's part of the country. That's natural, but I wonder why more of the discussion hasn't touched on this point.

Maybe part of the problem is that Ann doesn't express her support for Mitt in terms of his likelihood of winning, but in terms of his being the "true conservative," and this rankles people who don't agree. But that's how Ann conceptualizes or categorizes everything. When you paint everything as a conflict between adherence to the true ideology and betraying it, you're going to do that even if you are wrong.

If you didn't buy it when she told you that owning an SUV was a natural right that true conservatives would fight for, you may have seen through her way of painting all disputes as involving orthodoxy and heresy, but if you went along with her then, you're probably angry at her now, and painting her as the heretic/renegade/apostate.

Sometimes, though, other concerns play a role. The "natural right" to a gas guzzler may be limited by questions of gas efficiency or scarcity or pollution. Questions of electability may affect the candidates we nominate as much as ideological concerns.
