So did you use a ROYAL or were you a young one with an IBM Selectric perhaps? ;-)

I still have nightmares of the old black government typewriters...and ribbon ink on me up to my wrists LOL!

Yes I remember typing class and typing that phrase. We only had a few electric Smith Coronas, and mostly manual Royals.
We were all scared of our typing teacher, and the rule was that you had to start typing immediately the assignment on the board.

So I came in, and all the machines were taken except one, and it was on the front row desk, unplugged. I asked everyone about it, but no one knew anything. So I waited a bit, but then fear overcame me and I went ahead and plugged in the machine.

It blew fuses in that entire wing of the school. Teacher chewed me out very harshly, but at the end of the hr. she apologized, and said it was partly her fault for not being where she belonged.

I was never so scared and embarrassed at school before or since.
