No being mad doesn’t make someone an enemy, but mad held this long is a grudge and a grudge is one sign of an enemy.

I envy your lifestyle. I'm sure you already know how blessed you are.

I don't live in a city but I do live in a town where there are a good number of illegals and the houses are all pretty close together. We have some land but we have neighbors close by. That may be a good thing when things get bad.

I do expect the cities to burn first (remember Vancouver after they lost the Stanley Cup?) and after about two weeks, the gangs will start branching out into areas like mine. I'm prepared but not everyone is. There are many here that simply go about their days, secure in their belief that "it couldn't happen here".

I saw a commercial last night that there’s a new preppers series soon to air...

It's on the National Geographic channel starting 2/7. I read some pre-release articles on it and also given the leftist slant on NatGeo...I fully expect it to be about the lunatic fringe and crazies of the Prepper movement so NatGeo can paint all of us with their broad brush. I'm not expecting a reasoned, intelligent, unbiased presentation of fact. But I'll watch at least one episode.

Thanks. Know what you mean about NatGeo but, like you, I want to see what it’s about.

Imagine if that fellow with the double barreled shotgun tried to be a strong man in the US where everyone has an AR-15

I keep the shotgun(s) handy for close encounters. They're not good for much else...mostly. I do have some nice ammo for the 12 ga that has a .65 caliber mini ball/rifled wad. Better distance than shot or regular slugs.

Though this is MA and hi-cap mags are verboten...I'd love to get me an AR-15 some day. I'm not rich. Until then, my Mossberg 30-30 will have to do for stand off distances.

I am on show five of the first season

Wait...what? You are going to be on the NatGeo preppers show?

Well...I guess it may be more balanced that I had assumed.

“They have no more motive to expand their dominance to the Philippines ... Just in the news last night there was mention of the US asking to station some ships here.”

Motive... the new business class, no. There is a segment of their economy that wants only to sell us stuff, and they have no ambitions for taking territories.

Their military leadership is another matter. They are schooled in the idea that China’s destiny is to rule Asia, and eventually to become the premier power in the world. Some of the things their generals have said publicly are quite frightening.

There is a struggle between the two factions within their government. The business class wants peace and profits; the military class is — long-term — preparing for war. That is the reason the US is increasing our presence in the Pacific.

Right now China does not have a navy capable of large-scale conflicts, but they are rapidly building that capability. Ten or twenty years from now, they may have the power to be able to reach out to their neighbors.

Sorry for the bad news. I’m sure you like your new life: tropical island, beaches, warm breeze, Asian food... Got a spare room? :)

Be safe!

I agree with you pastor.

I will also give you a good reason, farm land and clean water. China has pretty much devastated theirs and they have billions and billions to feed. The farm lands to the north have been devastated by drought. Hungry and Famine are two of the oldest motives for war.

God only knows what the world will be like in 20 years, if it is even still here.

I am 67 and not worried.
I will be long gone, if and when they invade the Philippines.

If and when China starts a war, it will probably be the last war on Earth.

>> clothes are washed in a machine that doesn’t require electric <<

Could you elaborate on this a bit more? Sounds interesting and useful.

I’m very impressed with your preps. Nice job. How in the world did you get your family and friends to take prepping so seriously?

I’ve spoken with my friends and while there are interesting in talking about it, they aren’t as enthusiastic when it comes to taking specific actions, i.e. - going without electricity for a week.

As to the laundry equipment, I will refer you to Lehmans.com. They are a company, based in Ohio I believe, who specialize in products for people who live without electricity, like the Amish.

I’ve done a bit of business with them over the last 5or 6 years, always with good results. The delivery is usually prompt and customer service very good. They are a bit on the pricey side, but the products are first rate.

As to my family, they have no choice, this ain’t no freakin’ democracy here. This is my castle, so to speak, and I rule it unconditionally. No, seriously, I talk to the kids, who are now all adults, a lot about where I’m coming from. They would tell you I talk too much about it. They are like too many other Americans, too busy trying to live their own lives to pay attention to things they believe to be as unlikely as the end of life as we know it. Besides, they know that in the event that I’m right after all, they know exactly where to run to and exactly what they must do when they get here. They do like, overall, the change in lifestyle around here. They like all the animals. All of my kids were brought up hunting, boys and girls, and they like shooting very much.

As to my neighbors, some agree completely and seem glad to talk to someone with a plan. They don’t really have to do anything other than provide provisions for themselves, which I have become a real pest about. I don’t want to have to shoot any of these people when they run out of food and come to take mine. I am taking care of the defensive construction. So far the consencise is that the firing positions make fist class deer blinds. I take responsibility for making sure they have access to arms and ammo and I hold a monthly BBQ at my range.

Some of my neighbors are part time residents and really like the idea of a free watchman/ caretaker for their property. I like all of the hunting property that I have exclusive acces to. Win, win.

Hope this helped you, I do tend to rattle on about things I am passionate about. Let me know if I can be of further service.

How you do laundry while cruising in a sailboat.

Put a Hefty bag in the cockpit, fill with clothes, fill with seawater, add a quarter bottle of ammonia. Tie it shut and place it so the boat's rocks gets it rolling and sloshing around on deck real good. Untie after a couple hours and dump the water and let it run out the scuppers (ammonia is biodegradable) and fill with fresh water. Let it slosh around. Then drain and hang the clothes from the boom and railing, done.
